The Power of Positive Thinking

Positive thinking, what exactly is it, and why is it such a game-changer in life? I've dedicated a significant part of my time to understanding and sharing the profound impact of positivity. I've recently written an eBook, "The Power of Positive Thinking: A Guide to Transforming Your Life," and today, I'd like to share my passion for this subject, explaining what positive thinking is, why I wrote the book, and how it can change your life. Positive Thinking

I still remember when I graduated from college, and I had doubts that I might not get a Job or I might be like others who wouldn't be hired, and be a "Tambay". "Tambay" is a Filipino word that refers to a person who is hanging out or loitering in a particular place, often without any specific purpose. I have too many negative thoughts and doubts about myself thinking I might not be able to reach my dreams because of it.

Because of This, I really need to change something about myself. So, I tried watching motivational videos on YouTube and started reading quotes, and blogs.

At first, it was working, but as time went by, I realized that it always comes back. So I continued doing it whenever I felt down or stressed. After months of doing it, I realized that it actually helps. And after years of doing it, I realized that I am now less angry, less doubting, and less negatively thinking.

You see when we face struggles, or face an unknown future, we fear something and start to doubt ourselves. We are always facing new things in life and sometimes we fear what comes next, and we start doubting and thinking negatively. And we need to change that.

After we graduate from college or as we grow old, we have to face different new and same events in our lives like finding a Job, working, projects, assignments, having relationships, kids, money, debt, house, bills, new friends, enemies, quarrels, etc. And most of us fear what happens next because we don't know yet how to face them, especially things that are new to us.

But fear not, it seems that fear is just normal, it's just part of us. So instead let's just embrace the fear, and try to fix it. I recommend that if you fail or succeed in facing that new thing, you should take note of what you learned and think of how to improve it. So that when face it again, you at least have a plan on facing it. I recommend writing it on a piece of paper or on your PC or Phone where you can easily access it. And I guarantee you that will help.

Absolutely, I understand that many of you are software engineers, developers, programmers, and designers, and I want you to know that it's perfectly normal to encounter both easy and challenging tasks in your career. We all have those moments where fear and doubt creep in, making us question our career choices. It's human to feel that way sometimes.

But here's a friendly piece of advice: try to combat those negative thoughts with positive ones. Instead of thinking you can't do it, view it as an exciting challenge. Imagine yourself as someone who enjoys learning and mastering new things. Embrace the process of learning, and just give it a shot. If things don't work out as planned, don't worry. Debugging your life is a lot like debugging your codeβ€”identify the issues, make necessary changes, and try again.

Remember, those moments of self-doubt are just temporary setbacks, and positive thinking can help you overcome them. Stay curious, stay positive, and keep pushing your boundaries. You've got this! 😊

I'm naturally a pessimist, but I too have been trying to be more positive and can 100% confirm that negativity easily wiggles it's way back in your brain despite your best positive intentions! I will definitely check out your ebook!

A few additional things that have really helped me have been:

  • The book Getting Things Done (a book I would encourage everyone to read!). It's not focussed on positivity or anything, but I found that my negativity was at its worst when I was overwhelmed, or projects were snowballing out of control. This book has helped me tremendously in keeping all that stuff organized and maintainable, which has removed a lot of that overwhelming stuff from my life, allowing me to stay positive more.
  • Assuming positive intent when I get feedback. When I would get feedback, it was sometimes hard not to take it personally. This would inevitably lead me down the negativity rabbit hole. But for a while now I've been really trying to assume that whoever is giving me feedback has a positive intent (even if they don't...it doesn't matter). By assuming that everyone who gives me feedback has a positive intent behind their words has really helped me to stay positive in receiving it.
  • Lastly, after reading Crucial Conversations (another fantastic book I would highly recommend), when I feel myself beginning to judge someone negatively because of their behavior, I've been working on stopping myself and asking "Why would a reasonable, rational, and decent person do what this person is doing?" Coming up with my own answer to this question (regardless if it's true or not) has allowed me to soften that judgement, and tell myself a different story that let's me view a lot of bad behavior in a more positive way.

I totally agree with you on the power of positive thinking and on how important it is to stay positive. Positive thinking is a great passion of mine as well, it is truly a game changer! Congratulations on your ebook, I do not know when you wrote it but it is truly an accomplishment even still!

As with anything, positive thinking can sometimes lead to bad results.
I believe that we need a mindset that motivates us, whether positive or negative, to take action.

Agreed! In my eBook, I also talked about the importance of positivity and negativity. Life is full of ups and downs, and we all face different situations every day. Some of these situations can be positive, like getting a promotion at work or spending time with loved ones. Others can be negative, like dealing with bills, sickness, or stress. But no matter what the situation is, it’s important to stay positive and approach it with a smile 😊. Because the more we focus on the negative, the more negativity will multiply.
