Negotiation is hard. I'm currently in the process for an offer I'm excited to accept. Everyone I've spoken with has encouraged me to counter and ask for the things that matter to me. But this whole process is uncomfortable, especially since it's my first dev role.

So, I would love to hear your negotiation stories.

Have you ever regretted not negotiating more? Have you had to turn away a role you loved? Have you seen a major bump in compensation as a result?

I wish you good luck!

I had a few negotiations that couldn't work out. Usually from companies that refused to pay market price, and thought everyone was 'a student'.

Companies refused to add meal tickets if not negotiated (only once), or offer much less than my must-have-minimum or threatened to reduce to 25% after I signed contract. Finding a good company to work with is HARD.

I am no expert in this domain, but with every try, I become better. Hope it works out and next time you can negotiate more.

Thank for sharing! It must have been tough to walk away from those offers, but I hope you've since found the perfect role

I found other roles for sure. Nothing is perfect.

Will this be over the phone or by email? Email might make it slightly easier for you.

I've had some success using Ramit Sethi's information (google: "ramit negotiate salary" His free material is pretty good and worth while).

The ask is a conversation and shouldn't be adversarial; if you are getting that vibe, then could be food for thought about company culture.

This was over email as well as over a video call. I think I watched some of his material
