How's your 2020 going?

I took this past weekend to breathe.

Instead of getting a head start on a major blog post, I did what I regretted not doing in 2019, in 2018 and in 2017– I hung out with friends and let the weekend pass me by.

For me, this signified what will hopefully be a seismic change in priorities.

When there's still so much to learn, it's difficult to justify skipping one day, let alone three. But then 2020, which used to seem so far away, rolled in. And with it came the realization that in the same way you learn bit by bit, relationships need to be nurtured deliberately day-by-day.

So with that in mind, my 2020 has been going much better! I'm happy to have let myself take off three days and ecstatic to still have friends to spend that time with. Surprisingly, the world did not end.

How is your 2020 going? Did 2020 bring about any major self-realizations?

It's full of ups and downs! I'm sharing ideas, getting more knowledge, helping others, learning and building things but on the flip side when I apply for some jobs, most of them disappoint me, uh. But hey, it's okay!

I can relate on the job front. It hasn't been an easy journey so far. What resources are you using during your search?

I'm mostly into AngelList and LinkedIn or Twitter.

So far I'm getting a head start on my reading (finished 3 books so far), getting into the habit of coding more recreationally and moving into my first home in the next few weeks. 2020 is going really well so far for me

Nah - a happy mix of non-fiction and fiction though.
So far I've read...

  • Permenant Record by Edward Snowden
  • Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein
  • To Have and Have Not by Ernest Hemingway And I've read about two chapters of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark which I'm hoping to finish sometime next week

It's been stressful so far but I'm working on it. I'm getting more organized and starting to find systems that work for me and I'm reflecting more on what I need my priorities to be.

Definitely! When I started programming, I had to do review on how I learn and what works for me

Actually pretty well! I've been staying on top of some of my habits/goals (running, reading books, writing blogs weekly). Not staying on top of all of them, but I'm doing a lot better than last year.
