You can learn anything on YouTube. Brad Traversy recently did a video on 20+ developer YouTube channels to follow. As an avid consumer of programming videos, I thought it would be fun to build on Brad's list, found at the end of this blog.
I was surprised by the number of YouTubers on this list I already follow. But I also created a small list of people I follow that are not on Brad's list. These are also the channels I've been watching most over the past few weeks.
5 YouTube Channels Not On the List
-
Traversy Media
- Brad has a comprehensive list of videos covering seemingly every programming topic. No matter what I'm learning, there's a walkthrough, along with the source code.
-
Web Dev Simplified
- This is a smaller YouTube channel, but Kyle's videos are succinct and to the point. Most intro-to videos I come across are at least 30-60 minutes, with some reaching upwards of 3 hours (looking at you FreeCodeCamp). But Kyle's videos tend to be shorter than 30 minutes. That means a lot more info and a lot less fluff in each video.
-
Programming with Mosh
- Even better than the videos, Mosh also writes blogs to his personal site. His blogs are usually straightforward and easy to understand.
-
All Things JavaScript, LLC
- Another small YouTube channel that consistently puts out videos every Wednesday. Some of his videos use Java, but they're still worth watching as a non-Java developer. The format is presentations + code, which is helpful for understanding the theory, as well as seeing a concept in action. I've only watched a few videos on certain topics, but I'm already a fan!
-
CrashCourse Computer Science
- This isn't so much a channel as it is a playlist. Crash Course (the channel) produces educational videos about a variety of topics from history to literature and anatomy. But my favorite is their computer science playlist which discusses early computing.

If you're interested in web development Mozilla has this great new channel where different web devs dive into interesting CSS properties, site layout techniques, and leveraging the power of Firefox's developer tools.
Also, Layout Land specifically for understanding CSS layout (Grid, etc.).
Hi @jasterix ,
I also have a Youtube Channel, in which I discuss tutorials, and react.js projects SEO, SSR.
Please check it out and maybe we can collaborate on something.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing it
How can I trust this list when it doesn't include The Tech Lead?
Because it is not a programming/educational channel, it is a comedy/satire channel. I can not take a channel seriously with titles like "Why I am richer than you"
He's just a more sarcastic Stefan Mischook. Some people enjoy laughing and learning at the same time, and humor is subjective.
Case in point: "Uncle" Bob Martin's "Clean Code" video course is probably 50% made up of drawn-out skits mocking people who don't agree with him. I don't enjoy his teaching style or agree with all of his opinions, but he's a hero to millions of other people who do.
Yeah his recent shtick is him being a millionaire. But a few months ago he used to do more videos on more interesting topics like being a developer, breaking into the industry, etc. I hope he goes back to that soon
But thanks for the comment! I'm a huge fan of the content you put out, including your YouTube videos and full courses
haha I considered adding the Tech Lead, but his more recent videos at least have been more personal than programming
Apparently he's in a scandal right now with another YouTuber where he's basically redirecting people from what they thought was the YouTuber's algorithm course website to his algorithm course website.
Another on doxing a college student.
Do you mean the drama with Tren Black? That was wild
One channel I absolutely adore is Corey Schafer. He has some great Python tutorials and related frameworks explained really well.
I am also gonna borrow some channels from you, this list is great!
You're right- another great Youtuber! I'm actually subbed to his channel when I was learning Python. But more recently, I decided to focus on learning fullstack JavaScript, so I don't watch his videos as anymore
@jastrix
One more channel "Socratica" it's an educational channel, but you need to check on their python videos & playlist.
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLi01XoE...
thanks for the heads up! I just subscribed. I'm honestly blown away by the number of quality content creators on YouTube
I’ll second Socratica and add Computerphile to that too - excellent computer science info.
I also subscribed to Computerphile, which I'm really enjoying. This list might need a part 2!
Yes - the problem is there are too many really good maths and computing channels on Youtube, some generalised, some more specific. It's good to have them listed all in one place, so a part 2 would be a good idea, I think.
I hope that one day my newly created YouTube channel will be on this list. 😃
You just gained another subscriber. Thanks for sharing your channel. Can't wait to see how your channel grows. Good luck!
I can't believe Fireship is not on the list. His videos are very short as they are scripted which means I don't have to speed it up to 2X to watch.
I didn't know Fireship before, but I spent the weekend watching his networking videos. Will definitely add it to the list when Brad does a part 2
I'm surprised to not see The Coding Train on here! Dan Shiffman is a hero!
I am subbed to The Coding Train, but I only included channels I watched the last 3 weeks or so
Fair enough. He hasn't uploaded much in the last couple months as they were moving the studio; but I've noticed he's been uploading more recently. Would be nice to see him on the list, even if it is just an honourable mention ✌🏼😎
Awesome list, thanks for putting that together! I just launched a new channel code Code Fights where we bring in a few developers who code solutions to coding challenges within 15 minutes. There's no actual fighting involved - just lots of fun, and tons of interesting approaches (and great commentary)! 😍
If it sounds like something you'd all be interested in, please check us out 👇

Awesome idea. I hope you guys stick with it.
Sorry for the many grammatical errors!
After days of procrastination, I forced myself to publish this post last night, with the intent of reviewing today. But I was not expecting so many people to actually read it in the meantime
Dude! Back to back SWE is a must

This is a new channel to me, but I really like the content so far. Thanks for sharing
2 years ago when I was in my first year bachelors in Comp Science I was so afraid about the fact that I wouldn't get a job and I had no clue about the industry and programming. I was really scared . Thanks to these awesome youtubers I now enjoy coding and building projects and now I'm not scared anymore. Every day is a learning day for me :) .
By the way I also have recently started my own channel youtube.com/channel/UC92dq17D8ys8x...
I would be really grateful if you could visit my channel
As somebody with a small channel in that space, I find it inspirational and challenging at the same time. I want to commit to making it onto the list in 2021 ;-). Thanks for taking the time to put this list together.
No prob! Let me know if there's a topic you would like me to cover
Although we were not on the above list (we're a fairly new channel), I think we add something to this space primarily in the area of career advice for aspiring devs.

Although I didn't know of your channel before, I just checked it out and subbed. Love real world advice! Hope you'll check out my other blog posts
This is great post. It is very useful for me. Nowadays we can learn many disciplines though videos and programming languages are not the exception. I believe that you can become a good java developer if you spend enough time for studying.
thank you! I'm having to learn C# for work and I don't think it would have gone as well without YouTube!
Another great channel is by william fiset on data structures and algorithms.
Where did TheNewBoston go?! He just went MIA!
I think he is working for a company and has a contract where he can not make online dev content. Sucks, because he was awesome
I'm surprised that in 2019, any tech company would prevent their employee from making content (free advertising!). But then again, that's why the Tech Lead got fired from Facebook :(
Kevin Powell is another good channel if you want to learn about CSS in-depth.
Derek Banas Channel is missing here! youtube.com/user/derekbanas
I created my youtube channel about 4 months ago to help out the community targeting absolute beginner to advance level. I got hold of the author and he is kind enough to let me post here. Below is the link to my channel, you can help my channel grow by subscribing. Thanks in advance.

For sure add Jon Gjengset, especially for Rust, but awesome just to watch in any case. youtube.com/channel/UC_iD0xppBwwsr...
Looking for more non-javascript/typescript youtubers; already following so many of them, would like to keep up to date with Java/Python/PHP tech trends and such.
I feel you! Recently started working with .Net and the the number of quality youtubers is scant
Yeah, maybe the webdev people are just really good in content creating.
Bisqwit, Jason Turner, Handmade Hero, The Cherno, javidx9, and CoffeeBeforeArch for C & C++?
Any recommendations for Java channels?
I watched an intro to Vue.js on DesignCourse last weekend and was surprised by the quality.
The number of quality content on YouTube is astounding
Fedrik christenson is also a great guy with his own experience and thought. The way he explains is a very good approach. I'm following @Brad Traversy since my college day
Maybe you should use dev.tube instead. It's like YouTube, but without cat pictures and annoying algorithms :)
Addition: m.youtube.com/user/thenewboston
TheNewBoston is #22 on Brad's list. He must be a great content creator to be on Brad's list, but I hadn't known of him before then
One of the best channels is Coder's Tape. Please add that to the list.
Look forward to a part 2
Traversy and Mosh are great. I recommend checking them out on udemy, where they expand and complete the stuff they start free on youtube.
I'm going through Brad's React course now and you're right! I love how he structures the source code by section so that you can compare against yours
Hey if ur into data structures, algorithms along with javascript,
Check out my channel, I'm a new YouTuber. Any reviews and criticism would make me glad :)
"Friendly Developer" is the channel.
Just subbed! I'm. JavaScript developer, but your Trees #6 video was pretty easy to follow along with
