Wow, but somehow it seems you have to be really an extrovert type to be interviewed in podcasts or even interviewing, doing video calls and such things.
I'm somehow too much of an introvert I guess. Also still hate giving presentations, sadly.
But great article :-)
I end up telling people this a lot. I'm pretty introverted, I had to work really hard to be comfortable with being out of my comfort zone.
That being said, I do think this industry has a bias favoring extroverts.
Yeah, I once turned down the possibility of an interview for a huge podcast I guess (at least he seems to have a really big audience for Java related stuff). I asked if he could write about my Open Source project in his blog and he thought it would be far better to do a podcast with me and that it has a much better impact on generating some traction... and as I've never done anything like that I said, that I'm too much of an introvert and turned it down. So, you're for sure right.
It's really very interesting... Is there preofessional humans in this world who spent their specious time for mentoring others ... They are really great like you. This is really useful article. Cheers.
I really needed some of your advice. Thanks
Glad it helped!
never had a mentor, but to have one would be nice. But we do have our local meetup software development group and always support each other, ask questions and inform on new and awesome things happening in the development world. That means a lot already!
As a junior developer in a period of doubt, this feels like great advice. Thanks!
Glad to hear it helped someone!
@jacobherrington great article very inspiring. The slack invite on codingcoach.io/ has exprired is their slack still up and running ?
Great and timely advice. Mentors are necessary when you're starting out newly in dev or in a particular tech stack. Have been wondering where I could find them. Thanks for sharing this story
Dev said this was going to be a 9 min read tho.
