Coding vs Relationship Building: Which is more important for business.

I started learning code. I like coding, but also I like entrepreneurship. A lot of people speak about tools or subcontract developers for creating a business. I think that many people started business on the internet without knowing about programming. What do you think about this post (https://blog.kissmetrics.com/coding-before-relationship-building/). Should I dedicated my time to learn programming or negotiation, communication, soft skills in general for create a business.

I tell some of the people on my team, that 30% of their job is coding. The rest of it is communication.

Being good at what you do, does not matter if no one understands it, or if no one can plan against it. If you cannot set expectations, no one cares if you are a genius.

I have worked with people who are flat out, terrible at coding. But everyone is super happy with their work because they give estimates and meets or exceeds them. Documentation is something they actually do and so on.

"Black Box Development" is a term I was using for a while to describe developers who would be given a project or task, and would just disappear without providing updates or details into what was going on. It was the single most damaging thing to a project.

The game changing people on my team, were passionate about what they did, were good and had great communication skills. These people would get 60 hours of work done in a 40 hour work week, blow out their deadlines, everyone loved working with them and profitability was insane.

If I had to choose one over the other (skill vs communication) I would always choose communication. I find teaching people to code easier than teaching them to talk.
