Character trumps skill ever time, because it's much easier to teach the latter than the former. And no-one wants an arsehole on their team, no matter how skilled they are.
I wish we could assess character in a few hours... That would be helpful for politicians as well...

Ask a developer what they think makes a good developer and you'll learn a great deal about their character very quickly.
