Hey, I m Ashim, freelancer
currently working on the web application. Looking forward to working more on different web technologies. Will put my first post soon...
I have never been to Greece in the winter but I do come from a tiny, remote coastal town so I'm used to those lonely, chilly winters that are so particular to beachy areas in the off-season. I love it!
I don't know Portland but I think you would love it if you prefer dry over wet and rainy. My only concern is the social aspect. Difference with an island is that you can't drive elsewhere at your own volition. Those Islands often get disconnected because the ferry can't dock despite the incredible efforts of the captain to make sure the island gets the necessary (often weekly) connection.
Probably a boring answer, but I like the city that I've lived in my whole life and would stay here! We have a good amenities, my family and friends are here, weather is ok (for the UK). I'm pretty happy 😊
Front end developer. Interested in everything EmberJs, React, JavaScript, Bootcamp and CyberSecurity. In a different life a Medieval Art Historian, I took a really roundabout way back in to tech.
I live in the Yucatan, in Mérida, a small city, 1 million in the metro area so I guess it's not that small. Im 22 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, 77miles to Chichen Itza, 185miles to Cancun or 162 to Tulum. It's a beautiful quiet city, on Central Standard Time and short flight to Miami or Houston. It's quite convenient, modern city with historic downtown core. The frustrating part is that people forget that living and vacationing someone are two different things. Just because I live some where that people vacation does not mean I'm on one myself, but it's nice to have the option during downtime. Things have been pretty locked down since March for CoVid but normally it's a very magical place. youtu.be/0k4LSlgElF0
I'm already working as remote intern
and I'm also already working in a place where I find love, peace, greenery 🥰
My house is situated in such a wonderful place where I could hear rain, birds chirping and could look at farm from windows
Work from home is heaven for me (sometimes (silly bugs(coding bugs (😛))))
I live in a small town in the Hudson Valley of New York. When we went fully remote I moved out of Brooklyn into a more relaxing environment.... But still close enough to New York that I can get back into that invigorating environment when I need or want to.
... I'm not sure if this is definitely my ideal, but on the spectrum it's closer to my ideal than some other alternatives.
Experienced PHP and C programmer based in Norway, with a history of game and web development. CTO at Blue Scarab Entertainment, previously at Servebolt.com, IMVU, Smarterphone, and Funcom.
I was already 80% remote before the pandemic, and chose to live a few minutes from the beach, in a place with fast internet, great air quality, free health care, and a social safety net. No plans to change that, even if I will eventually commute again, to be at the office for one day each week.
I'm a Greek who hates Athens. So I would say at a Greek island but the problem is often that they get too deserted and difficult in winter time.
From my recent trips, I wanted to move to New Zealand to the south Island for remote or not. But, I feel that the best place I've ever been to for all year long was Seychelles. Proximity to the sea, mountain access, green, swimmable sea and English as an official language. But it is expensive.
I already enjoy much of the "work anywhere" experience. Places I've worked from, and would happily work from again (no particular order):
Dominican Republic
Mexico
Turkey
Tunisia
France
Italy
Greece (islands, not mainland).
Long term, we want to emigrate. If SpaceX would pull their finger out & get StarLink running, I'd buy a van (or better, a bus) and convert to a mobile home, and we'll go where the wind takes us. Handily, my partner is an Art teacher, so can work from anywhere too (if she goes back to being an artist, rather than a teacher).
I'm a fan of Open Source and have a growing interest in serverless and edge computing. I'm not a big fan of spiders, but they're doing good work eating bugs. I also stream on Twitch.
not planning to move as we just bought a house LOL. but we don't live in the city ( London) so it's ideal for us( my husband). Maybe enhance our house and make our Home office more comfortable and fun as possible.
I lived in the PH, it might be very ideal to work near the beach but you will struggle with the internet connection :D
Probably wouldn't move far at all because of my and my partners family. But I would really appreciate the freedom to visit places, family and friends for as long as I want. Just this year I was able to do just that and it was like a vacation. All obligations stayed at home and after work only quality time was waiting for me.
If I were alone and wanted an adventure it would probably be Strasbourg. Beautiful, not too big and not too small.
It really depends of the company that would be working for, because of stuff like pension funds, taxes, salary/rates range.
Example an international company with offices everywhere, because then you just “relocate” and you probably don’t loose company benefits and your salary wouldn’t get reduced 😂.
I am currently living in the Netherlands where for example I have 30% tax benefit and pension scheme (additional to retire fund) + heath insurance. If I moved to Portugal (even if was small town) I would need to do taxes twice in the Netherlands and in Portugal and the salary would be probably 5x less.
Either somewhere similar to where I live now or a neighborhood I used to live in a few years or so ago.
The neighborhood I used to live in was small and it was off of a busy road, but the neighborhood itself was quiet enough and nice to live in.
Where I live now is right near a small city, so at least we have a decent internet connection and everything is in short driving distance (some of it is in walking distance too).
I currently live in the west side of the Netherlands which is the most dense populated, and also more expensive.
I would move more to the east. Get a bigger house with an separate "office" that has a nice view of some nature. The separate office area is important, so that I have a place for work which is physically separate from my place of fun.

Location
San Pedro, CA
Education
MBA from the University of Southern California. BS in CS from Oregon State.
If I need to be on US time, either Los Angeles (where I live and work remotely now) or outside of Zion in Utah. If time zones and travel times don't matter, Cape Town.
Self-taught software developer, initially VB/.NET dev, later switched to PHP. Currently learning Python. I love to tinker with different technologies, and make stuff work.
Where I am right now - Oslo, Norway. Maybe with a bit more travel and working while on the road. Would love to spend a summer working from Svalbard, for example.
I've already moved over 5 years ago and not looking back. There are so many options in reach (pre/post-covid times) for those times I need to escape the city. For me it's ideal
Probably Australia! I lived in Sydney for a year after college and I miss it all the time, plus it's easy to hop over to New Zealand for more adventure :)
Where water meets the mountains, man.
Along with that, where cloud meets the mountains.
Milos, Greece!
Yeah! I would love as well in a griek Island but problem is that in the winter they are too lonely.

Things I would take into account:
As for "where", I'd consider, sea side:
Or land side:
[edit] Having a "good internet connection" will be off topic once starlink is deployed :)
At first I was surprised that Germany, Hungary, Baltic's and Scandinavia havent made the cut, and then I saw 'weather'.

That's a good thinking.. Hopefully more and more people do not think like that and the place wont become overpopulated ':)
Somewhere with
Lesser cars,
Good air,
low pollution (Sound and Air),
Good Internet,
Good Food,
Good people

This is my favorite place to work remote, my house. Choloma, Cortes, Honduras.

Base of a mountain on a beach by a river some place.
Iceland because I want to live near Puffins ❤️
There’s Puffins in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada as well if you need a Puffin backup plan. You also get icebergs for free. Even in July.
Sounds like heaven! ❄️ 🐦
Costa Rica - many factors the crime rate is one the lowest and a good country to retire.

Somewhere colder, and preferably rural, Norway, Scotland, Denmark... I hate hot weather.

Kotor, Montenegro
...but maybe in the summer I'll go to Langkawi Island, Malaysia

On the water somewhere with a low cost of living. Maybe like on Lake Michigan
I will probably go to Bali (Indonesia). It seems to be a peaceful and beautiful place.
Somewhere with reliable Internet to work
With same salary or reduced? That will decide if I move or not.
Here is a cool list: nomadlist.com/
Somewhere warm that has great food an amazing view, beaches nearby and fast stable internet.
If I need to be on US time, either Los Angeles (where I live and work remotely now) or outside of Zion in Utah. If time zones and travel times don't matter, Cape Town.
I'd "work" in a city with high wages and "live" in a town with a much lower standard of living cost
Muğla, Turkey
I see two options for me:
1) live someplace awesome ( but not cheap )
2) live someplace cheap ( but not really awesome )
I chose the former
Somewhere nice and cold, like Iceland, Norway, Sweden or Finland. Northern parts ofcourse
A non English speaking country, preferably South Korea or Singapore.
Belize, Panama, Costa Rica
Where I am right now - Oslo, Norway. Maybe with a bit more travel and working while on the road. Would love to spend a summer working from Svalbard, for example.
I already made the move, moved from the Netherlands to South-Africa
And no regret so far
The life is way more outside and of-course a mountain and ocean close-by is not a bad thing 🤟
Higashiyama, Japan
I think the atmosphere would perfectly suit me being a digital nomad and give me great inspiration to work my best.
Right now I live in Venezuela, but my dream is to live in Amsterdam
