Good to hear that your new hires get to visit HQ. I've worked in a region with a 12 hour time difference from HQ and unless there is that facetime with colleagues in person it quickly becomes them v us.
You also bring up a good point regarding communications channels and Slack. It's hard enough to keep up with which channel is used for what when you have been around a while. I can't imagine how hard that is to face as a new hire.
