I completed my bachelor's degree in finance with…. I wanted to add something at the end of the last sentence like some skill I learn that would get me a job. Since I read Jocko Willink's Extreme Ownership recently for the most part I think it's my own fault. Now the only real skill I know at this point was how to process a live Bird which I learn from my uncle by working part-time in his shop.
At this point I know I wanted to do something and development some skills that worth something. "I could be a web developer" I don't know where this thing popped into my mind maybe because I was watching a lot of YouTube at this point. So I did what most people do.
Google: Best programming language to learn in 2021?
Google: Python
YouTube: Best python tutorial for beginners?
I started watching some python tutorials. And learn some basics. At this point don't know anything about how can I use python to develop a website. At this point, one of my friends told me that he is going to attend a coding Bootcamp. We talked and in the end, we both did go for it.
It was a 6-month program so.
First month:
C Java HTML CSS JavaScript
For the first week, I learn basic concepts of programming like if condition, for loop, oops, class, functions, etc. In the next three weeks, I learned and developed two websites using HTML CSS JavaScript and a personal website.
Second and third months:
Python with Django
For the next two months, we had to choose a domain. I choose Python and Django because "Python". So a brushed up my python and started to learn Django with my first project. Like most people, I developed an e-commerce website as my first project to learn all the basics of Django. This month I learned something really important as a developer how to use Google, YouTube, and stack overflow.
Fourth month:
Data structures, React, Figma
This month I learned some basic data structure concepts and tried to learn React to use in the front end. For my second project, I choose a community platform. Learn basic Figma to submit my design and React for the front end. I was given two months the complete this project. This month I learned programming starts where the tutorial ends.
Fifth month:
A lot of struggle
For my first project (e-commerce) there were a lot of reference materials. But not much for the second one. Had to Google a lot. But I had to struggle because I was really happy with everything that I was learning.
Job:
At the end of the fifth month, both me and one of my other friends got a job offer from a startup company that was founded by one of the co-founders for my Bootcamp.
Conclusion:
If you think this was easy for me. It's not, for that whole five months I had to learn more than most of the people within that Bootcamp and it was still not enough because they had some computer background. I had to work late to the night all day every day without any Sunday break. And one of the main problems that I had to face was imposter syndrome.
But at the end of the day, hard work pays.
