Navigating the Blockchain Job Market: 10 Promising Career Paths to Explore

Introduction

Before going forward, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I am a software developer, mostly self-taught, and over the past 7 years since I started my professional career in Tech, I have worked in different roles and built or assisted with many different projects. I have worked in all sorts of environments, from small startups to schools, consulting companies, and development agencies. I even launched a few startups along the way.

All in all, I have really done a lot and learned a lot too. And I’m going to share some of the things I have learned with you, mostly the blockchain aspect.

Understanding your career goals

At some point, you might ask yourself, What should I do with my career? What kind of career path should I take?

Well, there are so many possible paths, and you can be successful in some of them, but you really need to understand yourself well enough to know which path you want to take.

One of the few things you want to consider is: What is my main goal? What do I really want to achieve in the end?

Your end goal may be to become a Distinguished Fellow, a person that everyone in your field looks up to. Positions like this one require you to have a lot of skills, experience, and, of course, expertise in whatever field you are in.

Of course, if you succeed, you will probably make a lot of money, be very popular, and impact many people’s lives, although it takes a lot to accomplish.

You might also be the kind of person who wants to become the Manager or CEO of a company or something within that space. These positions are usually the riskiest ones because launching a startup doesn’t always result in success. Not to make you feel down on yourself, but I have launched two startups that have failed miserably, but that didn’t stop me from trying harder to work on another. Although, on the positive side, you get to learn a lot, adapt to highly challenging and uncomfortable situations, and make high-pressure environments seem like child’s play. On the negative side, failure may impact your health, finances, and relationships.

Promising Blockchain Career Paths

With that understanding, let’s go ahead and discuss the blockchain job market and the different possible career paths you could take, regardless of your current career path or experience.

The sectors that surround blockchains have expanded as a result of the rapid expansion of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in recent times. In addition to other positions that rely on or support blockchain technology, there was little demand for blockchain engineers about 10 years ago.

In the beginning, there were only a few crypto entrepreneurs who worked several jobs and slept at their desks to launch their businesses. There was a shortage of blockchain developers and other crypto experts. Many cryptocurrency and Blockchain efforts were initially launched as side projects.

Today, blockchain technology is being utilised to varying degrees by companies of all sizes, necessitating the hiring of more highly skilled individuals. Since Blockchain technology is already utilised in a variety of other industries and firms are constantly looking for new ones, this has little to do with the growth of cryptocurrencies per se.

In addition to the financial sector, there has been a growth in the hiring of Blockchain specialists in the healthcare, energy, and tourism sectors. Due to the relatively recent rise of cryptocurrencies, employers like governments are in great demand.

With this, it is really understandable why anyone would want to start a career in blockchain. So, whether you are a product manager, frontend developer, forex trader, lawyer or just someone who wants to start a career in tech, I do believe that there is a place for you in the blockchain.
