Why are we so easily blinded by our expectations and dreams that we fail to appreciate our efforts, progress, and wins?
Why do we sometimes forget to celebrate the journey in our pursuit of the destination?
I woke up this morning feeling so down. I wouldn't call it depression, but I would say frustration over the things I haven't yet achieved.
I got frozen. Almost couldn't do any thing productive today. I just lay on my bed feeling bad.
When I got tired of feeling bad, I got up from my bed, sat at my desk, pulled out my diary and journal, and then pondered on the efforts and progress I had made just these past weeks.
Two weeks ago, I had an account on this amazing platform, but I hadn't written anything yet. Today, including this post, I've written 15 posts that have garnered 592 views and 23 reactions. Plus, I've had the privilege of having my work liked by Ben Halpern and Jess Lee.
When I wrote my first post here on the 1st of September, I had planned on writing once every week, but I ended up writing consistently for the past 14 days (including this, 15 days).
So Why am I not grateful?
Comparing myself with others and judging myself by just my results instead of efforts.
This has blinded me to my own wins and effort.
Most times, we feel down and frustrated due to a lack of appreciation.
Please take time tonight to reflect on your wins, no matter how small. Give yourself a pat on the back, pour yourself a glass of wine, give yourself a toast, treat yourself to something nice, congratulate yourself, and celebrate your achievements.
And let's not forget about our failures - the missed jobs, failed interviews, lay-off, unsuccessful projects, and other setbacks. Even in those challenges, there are valuable lessons to be learned and efforts to be recognized. Let's take a moment to appreciate our resilience and perseverance.
As we plan our actions, projects, and milestones for this week, let's also take time to appreciate ourselves and be grateful for our efforts.
As we embark on this new week, let's shift our focus from judging just our progress or products to appreciating and rewarding our efforts.
Have a beautiful week DEVs ❤️.
