A lot of big things that happened in 2023 started with "G" -- well OK there was GPT and there's GLP1.
To hit my new years resolution I've been doing some research and trying to figure out how the "new" (and well researched) weight loss drugs that are all over the news works.
Digging into the papers
I put all my learnings into a single post which I'll summarize here:
Here's the simple version you could have looked up on Wikipedia:
The Term "GLP1 Agonist" refers to a class of drugs that reduce blood sugar and energy intake by activating the GLP1-receptor. (Wikipedia)
Let's make things even simpler:
Drugs that are called "GLP1 Agonist"s release a hormone in your stomach which is normally released after you eat. This calms your food cravings and makes it easy to eat less.
One of the best things about GLP1 Receptor Agonists is that there is a ton of research (a bunch funded by the firms that produce the peptides), so there's a lot to read up on.
Super excited to learn more about this stuff in 2024 -- as someone who has struggled with my weight in the past, it really seems like a game changer!
