Hello all, it's been too long but this is the time to tell you about GreyOS!
GreyOS is an open source Meta-OS (nothing related to metaverse, facebook, etc.). I have been developing this since 2013.
GreyOS introduces the new computing era with the Cloud Computer (CC), which is always on, available, fast and secure.
Please check the details at https://github.com/g0d/GreyOS
I am looking for contributors, developers and testers to do so much more, create new integrated apps and reshape the computing landscape into something fresh!

Looks very similar to friendos.com/
Nope. Nothing related to a silly web interface. GreyOS is a full computer on the cloud. Please look through the material and tech details before you comment.
Thank you!
I did read through the details. It looks quite similar.
FriendOS seems pretty far from a silly web interface. You can connect local filesystems, create apps, all kinds of stuff.
Dear Jon,
The work that FriendOS is based on, is my ideas and open source code dating back to 2013. I've seen their effort but they are doing this all wrong.
It's sluggish work and a messed up logic. You have to see GreyOS in the near future to understand....
Looks interesting though, but is your site working? I'd like to try it. I just tried to register at greyos.gr - it seemed to lock up after I clicked register. Opening the devtools revealed an error
Uncaught ReferenceError: username is not defined
Jon,
GreyOS is in alpha stage. Not even beta!
It does not register for now.
Please enter with: demo@greyos.gr / password
Check also the white paper for the history and details:
github.com/g0d/GreyOS/blob/master/...
Also look at the architecture diagram: raw.githubusercontent.com/g0d/Grey...
Cheers!
Agreed, I'm not seeing anything concrete defined in the "architecture" or "whitepaper" documents that would define GreyOS as anything other than a FriendOS ripoff. There is no real explanation of what the "micro-kernel" would provide, no list of available or planned APIs, no actual API descriptions.
Even the code itself boils down to PHP, Javascript, outputting a "silly web interface" that renders iframes. Even the example "applications" are the same thing FriendOS already has, such as classic minecraft.
Also, as soon as I read (in the Github repo) that GreyOS purports to have 100% availability, with all problems fixed in <= 1 hour by an engineer, I was immediately alarmed.
Nothing can claim 100% availability. Even AWS itself has outages, so your own application cannot claim an uptime greater than the platform it's hosted upon.
AWS only promises an SLA of 99%, and offers customer credits for any outages that last longer than the 99% SLA.
Why would you build this using PHP? I'd expect if you're building an OS (even a web OS), you would want a compiled, type-safe language, with a focus on performance.
