How does Code&Jobs compare with other job posting websites?

Background

Code&Jobs is a new job posting platform which was built to satisfy the needs of web3 and blockchain job seekers and recruiters alike. This website allows its users to share their skills and experience in a more blockchain-friendly manner than traditional platforms like LinkedIn.

For instance, this decentralised platform runs on the Solana blockchain and supports crypto payments using its Solana smart contract.

In this article, we will see how Code&Jobs compares to other job posting platforms. We will focus on two of the biggest ones in the tech space: WeWorkRemotely.com & Cryptocurrency Jobs.

WeWorkRemotely:

Besides being a job posting website, WeWorkRemotely aims to become the best website for remote workers and recruiters in various industries. The platform offers various guides and resources that help startups, companies and job seekers switch to remote work.

Cryptocurrency Jobs:

As you can see from the platform’s name, this job posting website, like Code&Jobs, is dedicated to cryptocurrency jobs. Founded in 2017, this platform has built trust from the crypto community in general. In fact, hundreds of companies use it to grow their teams. Additionally, Cryptocurrency Jobs boasts a large user base, with hundreds of thousands of people using it to transform their career.

User Experience:

The team behind Code&Jobs has built a user-friendly interface that is both good-looking and easy to use, especially for users interested in jobs that pay in crypto.

For instance, users can select from a drop-down menu whether they would like to display jobs that pay in cryptocurrency or not. Add to that, the platform displays an icon below each job posting that indicates if the job is paying in crypto or not.

Code&Jobs is not only a job posting site, but a networking website as well. In fact, the platform allows users to make profiles, send a message, post a blog and follow etc to help job seekers and employers find each other easily. Having the ability to reach out to a recruiter or candidate directly this way makes the hiring and interviewing process much easier for both parties. The messaging feature is as easy to use as the Reddit one. Code&Jobs will also notify you by e-mail whenever you receive a new message on the platform:

The Code&Jobs developers are always developing and adding new features to the website. For instance, Code&Jobs has integrated Discord and GitHub support, allowing users to connect to show their usernames on both websites on their Code&Jobs profile. This feature is especially important for developers since it allows them to showcase their past projects, which are usually hosted on GitHub.

Each job posting on the website displays the company, the role, the job type, the salary (if listed by the employer) and some tags that allow users to search for jobs in the same industry.

On Code&Jobs, users can find the best opportunities that suit their needs using the “find a job” option. This option allows them to sort the available jobs by industry, skill, salary, type, and location.

As for the WeWorkRemotely website, it has an intuitive user interface that makes it easy for the average user to go through the listed jobs.

From the top bar, recruiters and job seekers should be able to find what they are looking for, including: categorized remote jobs, community links, guides and the option to make an account or post a job.

Similarly to Code&Jobs “find a job” option, the platform has its advanced search, allowing users to sort available jobs depending on their needs.

Another great feature provided by the WeWorkRemotely is enabling jobseekers to set up alerts for roles that match their experience and the job search preferences they provide when signing up. The website also features a personalized feed, where it displays the jobs that line up with the user’s expectations.

Regarding the Cryptocurrency Jobs website, it has an easy-to-use interface with an awesome design.

The website sorts jobs by roles, location, job type and categories on the job collections page. Add to that, it has two great features:

The startups page: This page allows users to browse the profiles of more than a thousand blockchain startup profiles, and explore their job opportunities.

Alt text

The salaries' page: This section of the platform offers insight into the salaries provided by employers and anonymous user submissions. You can view the latest job listings with salaries, along with the average base salary by job title:

Users can help bring transparency to the crypto world by sharing their salary.

Community building and support:

The backbone of the community building on Code&Jobs relies on the blogging feature, which allows users to publish guides and walkthroughs showcasing their skills and improving their visibility to possible recruiters by allowing them to show their job posts along with their blog posts. Users can also filter the blog posts by title, category and tag in the blogs section.

With Telegram being one of the most used messaging apps by the crypto community, Code&Jobs has taken a special interest in the service.

Code&Jobs has a telegram group where the Code&Jobs team posts recent updates about the project. Users can also ask questions regarding the current state of the project.

One of the unique features of Code&Jobs is its telegram bot. It makes searching for jobs, recruiters, and candidates way easier and fast. In essence, you can use commands to get the most recent job postings on the platform. They also plan to build a similar bot and channel for Discord.

WeWorkRemotely, on the other hand, has a rich blog consisting of hundreds of posts that focus on helping job candidates find remote jobs and guides about remote work for both recruiters and workers.

Moreover, the platform has a dedicated podcast called The Remote Show, featuring CEOs of various remote businesses. Furthermore, WeWorkRemotely has social media profiles on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook where the team behind the platform engages with users, as well as a forum dedicated to support and resources regarding remote work.

What is more is WeWorkRemotely’s Event Calendar featured at their website. The platform holds various events that give its users the ability to learn from thought leaders, professionals in order to progress as remote workers and enhance their skills:

Cryptocurrency Jobs uses Twitter, its newsletter & the website’s blog to interact with users. The platform promises complete independence and opts for a rather personal communication. When reaching out to the company via email or social media, Daniel, the website owner, will be there to assist you. Actually, the platform has a structured contact page where users can provide their feedback, propose a partnership, or support the project on Gitcoin.

Blockchain Tech:

What sets Code&Jobs apart from others is its use of blockchain tech.

The platform runs on the Solana blockchain, which is known for its low fees and fast transactions, and is set to become an important part of the Solana ecosystem in the future. The platform is working on using its own token on the solana blockchain called CODE, which can be used by users as a mode of payment within the Code&Jobs ecosystem.

For example, they allow companies to pay for job posts with Solana or the CODE token. When companies pay for their job ad with the token they get a 5% discount. The process of posting a job ad is very straightforward, but if you have never used dapps before, check out this more in depth tutorial by u/tripster.

First, the recruiter should install a browser extension or a mobile app to use DeFi apps. For example, you can use the Phantom app for Solana. If you have an account at the Code&Jobs website, you can find many options by clicking the “connect” button on your crypto settings:

Second, make sure you save the seed phrase provided by your app or extension somewhere safe, and that you have the required amount of Solana or CODE tokens prepared to pay for a job post.

Next, click on the pen icon on the top right of the website, choose the “post a job” option, and fill out the form with information regarding the available role such as the job title, description, location, etc.

After filling out the info, you will get a preview of how your job ad will look like, so make sure to correct any mistakes before proceeding to this payment page :

Finally, click the “confirm” button and approve the transaction on your app/extension:

You will receive an e-mail containing the transaction details in a few seconds. Here is a screenshot of my own job ad that I made while testing the website:

Other outstanding features which should impress the crypto community of professionals are enabling users to display their NFTs on their profiles and the integration of various solana crypto wallets such as Phantom and Ledger, making it easier for blockchain startup owners to pay for ads on the website.

You can visit the platform’s whitepaper page to learn more about the project and its upcoming web3 features, such as a DEX within the platform and an NFT marketplace.

Despite not being a decentralized platform, Cryptocurrency Jobs has done better than WeWorkRemotely regarding the use of cryptocurrency. The platform not only accepts crypto payments, but has also been receiving funding from contributors using Gitcoin.

Security and Trustworthiness

Code&Jobs seems to take user privacy and security more seriously than WeWorkRemotely by revealing as little information as possible about their users. For example, when I tried resetting my password using an e-mail that I didn’t register on both platforms with, Code&Jobs didn’t reveal whether the e-mail I submitted for password reset actually exists:

alt_text

However, WeWorkRemotely displayed an error saying the e-mail doesn’t exist in their database, which makes it easier for potential attackers to target users:

alt_text

In order to enhance their users’ privacy, Code&Jobs allows users to block others and prevent them from sending them a message or following them, which reduces the risk of scams and security breaches.

Users on Code&Jobs and WeWorkRemotely are free to delete their accounts whenever they want from the account tab.

As for Cryptocurrency Jobs, the website doesn’t allow users to make accounts, so I couldn’t verify if it is using good security practices.

Closing thoughts

While all the platforms mentioned in this article can be considered for posting job ads or searching for remote positions, there are some major differences between each of them:

Cryptocurrency Jobs is ideal for searching new jobs in blockchain startups and can help users make more informed career decisions by providing salary data. The website has also partnered with many companies in the industry in order to provide custom hiring solutions for recruiters.

Users who would like to network and search for new opportunities in the web3 and blockchain space using a completely decentralized platform should consider using Code&Jobs. By blogging and sharing their expertise in their desired roles, users are sure to be noticed by potential employers. What is more is the ability to receive your salary in $CODE and to trade NFTs and tokens provided by the upcoming features on the platform.

Add to that,I had a great experience working with the Code&Jobs team. They are very responsive and friendly. For example, after helping me with testing the job post feature, they requested feedback for the message feature. I told the team that having a “Respond” button on the messages tab will make it easier to use, and I was amazed when, two hours later, I received a message from them saying that they updated the app and I saw the new button added:

Alt text

In fact, I’m sure that you, as a user, can reach out anytime to the Code&Jobs team for suggestions regarding the website features and the dev team will contact you shortly. If it’s feasible, they will implement your requested feature in a few hours.

Finally, the WeWorkRemotely website should be an important source of information about remote work for both jobseekers and recruiters. Workers can also search for remote positions in the wider tech space. However, websites like Cryptocurrency Jobs and Code&Jobs are a better alternative for those seeking onboarding into the crypto ecosystem.
