Hey Dev.to! 👋
I’ve built an open-source tool called Dog Food Safety Checker to help pet owners quickly check if certain foods are safe for their dogs. With so much conflicting information online, I wanted a straightforward, reliable way to check food safety for dogs—and make it accessible for everyone.
How It Works:
Choose a Category: Start by selecting either Human Food, Vegetable, or Fruit.
Auto-Suggest Ingredient Search: Begin typing the food item you want to check. The tool suggests relevant options based on your category.
Submit for Results: Hit submit, and you’ll get an answer on whether it’s safe, along with explanations and safe alternatives for any unsafe items.
How You Can Help: I’d love for the Dev.to community to help make this tool even better! Here’s how:
Report Bugs or Issues: If you spot any functionality issues or bugs, please let me know.
Suggest Features: If there’s anything you’d like to see added or improved, I’m all ears!
UI/UX Improvements: If you have ideas on how to improve the design or user experience, those suggestions are always welcome.
Contribute to the Ingredient Database: Know any additional foods that should be listed? Help expand our ingredient list!
Head over to Dog Food Safety Checker on GitHub to check out the code, submit issues, or contribute. I’m looking forward to your feedback and ideas!
Let’s make pet food safety easier and more accessible for everyone! 🐶💙
