What is Web 3.0

Technology changes drastically after a decade; we have seen so much in the past three decades, from pagers to smartphones, mainframes. The same has happened with the Web as we know it. We are about to surf on the third generation of the web named relatively Web 3.0. Currently, We are using Web 2.0 and you should have got the question of why we need another generation of Web right? Web 2.0 is already sufficient and has almost everything. Let’s get into the details.

Web 1.0 can only provide static information with no interactions, Then we have Web 2.0, a Dynamic web with highly interactional experience with social data collaborations between users and service provider. Now, the future is ready for Web 3.0, and its predefined that it will change the whole definition of the web.

Web 3.0 is a bit far from reality, as there is no solid definition to it. It took around ten years to upgrade the internet from web 1.0 to web 2.0. The technology which is behind web 3.0 is still in development; smart home appliances and IoT working via wireless networks are some early examples. Let’s get to know them in detail.

Web 1.0

It was developed in 1990 by Berners-lee; He has written the three technologies that became the foundation of the Web as we know it. And Also the very first web browser and page editor WorldWideWeb.app. The three technologies are:

HTML: Hyper text markup language, the initial and widely used programming language for web development.

URL: Uniform resource locator, A unique address that we use to locate websites and its resources.

HTTP: Hyper text transfer protocol, This allows browsers to retrieve and locate resource data.

Web 2.0

Web 2.0 basically refers to how the internet is being used. Over the past two decades, web 2.0 completely replaced web 1.0 due to its interactivity and social connectivity to the user-oriented view. Web 2.0 allows user-generated content of various formats to be viewed by millions of internet users, It allows millions of users to interact at the same place.

Mobile internet, smartphone and social networks give web 2.0 an exponential push. With more powerful devices, it became more potential and is now being used in making apps with expanded activities and utilities.

Web 3.0

Web 3.0 is the next generation of the Web or internet as we know it. No one is sure what it will offer to the general users because it is in its early stage only few are working with it. But we can be sure it will take place on our web in near future with much more advantages and control to the end users.

Web 2.0 to Web 3.0 is going to be a big paradigm shift with drastic changes on the web or internet as we know it. Let's check some of the known changes that are currently we might see:

Decentralization: This is the biggest thing which is going to change the web. Currently we need permission or we can only do things that we are allowed to do on a specific platform. But with Web 3.0 users will have the control in their hand with blockchain technology. Data will be stored in thousands of computers and everyone will have access to it. This will remove todays centralized control over data.

Bottom Up Designs: Instead of code being written and controlled by a small group of experts, it was developed in full view of everyone, encouraging maximum participation and experimentation.

Conclusion

Web 3.0 is a new future technology that is on the edge of its potential launch. One thing that we can be sure that it will provide the users more control and security over their data. It will take much time to replace the whole web but Web 3.0 is going to be something that we all should look forward to.
