In Azure, there are primarily three types of virtual networks:

  1. Virtual Network (VNet): This is the basic building block of an Azure virtual network. It allows you to create a logically isolated network in the cloud, enabling you to securely connect your Azure resources and extend your on-premises network to the cloud.vpn

  2. Virtual WAN (Wide Area Network): Virtual WAN is a networking service that simplifies the deployment and management of wide-area connectivity. It provides a unified connectivity platform for connecting various Azure resources, branch offices, and on-premises networks.virtualwan

  3. ExpressRoute: ExpressRoute allows you to create private connections between your on-premises infrastructure and Azure. It provides a more reliable and predictable network experience compared to public internet connectivity. BENEFITS OF HAVING VNETS

There are several benefits of having virtual networks in Azure. Here are some of them:

  1. Network isolation: Virtual networks provide isolation of your resources, allowing you to create separate network environments for different applications or departments. This helps in improving security and minimizing the impact of issues in one network on others.network

Suitable Virtual Networks for businesses
There are different types of Azure virtual networks (vNets) available, and the choice of which one is suitable for a business depends on specific requirements. Here are some commonly used Azure vNets:

  1. Basic Azure vNet: This is a simple vNet that provides connectivity between Azure resources and on-premises networks. It does not include advanced features like Azure Virtual Network Service Endpoints or peering.basic

  2. Standard Azure vNet: This vNet offers more advanced features compared to the Basic vNet. It includes support for Azure Virtual Network Service Endpoints and VPN gateways, providing more options for connectivity.

  3. Azure VPN Gateway: This enables secure connections between the on-premises network and Azure vNets. It can be used to establish site-to-site, point-to-site, or multi-site VPN connections.

  4. Azure ExpressRoute: This provides a dedicated, private connection between on-premises networks and Azure vNets. It offers higher bandwidth, lower latency, and better reliability compared to VPN connections, making it suitable for businesses with higher network demands.

The choice of vNet depends on factors such as the size of the business, security requirements, desired connectivity options, and budget. It is recommended to consult with an Azure expert or architect to determine the most suitable vNet for a specific business scenario.

To create a virtual network on Azure, you can follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to the Azure portal: Go to the Azure portal at portal.azure.com and sign in with your Azure account.portal

  2. Click on “Create a resource”: On the Azure portal dashboard, click on “+ Create a resource” button to begin creating a new resource.

  3. Search for “Virtual Network”: In the search bar, type “Virtual Network” and select “Virtual Network” from the suggestions.

  4. Click on “Create”: On the Virtual Network page, click on the “Create” button to start creating a new virtual network.

  5. Fill out the details: Provide the required details for your virtual network creation, such as name, address space, subscription, resource group, etc. You can also choose advanced options like subnet configurations, DNS settings, etc., according to your needs.

  6. Review and create: Review all the details you’ve provided, make sure everything looks correct, and click on the “Review + create” button.

  7. Click on “Create”: Once you’re satisfied with the configuration, click on the “Create” button to start creating your virtual network.

  8. Wait for deployment: Azure will now deploy your virtual network resources. This process may take a few minutes to complete, so be patient.

  9. Access your virtual network: Once the deployment is complete, you can access and manage your virtual network from the Azure portal.

That’s it! You have successfully created a virtual network on Azure. Remember to configure the necessary security and connectivity settings as per your requirements.
