If you take only einstein special relativity, to go back in time you need to go faster than light, which is forbidden by the same theory. Since nothing can go faster than light in special relativity, no one can go back in time.
if you now take general relativity, space and time is bended by matter. Therefore, in a specialy crafted massive space time structure you can go faster than light. Therefore, you can go back in time. In 1988, thorne and morris showed that such a structure exists, it's a wharmhole.
So the good news is that, YES you can travel back in time. The bad news, wharmholes are instable and to pass them, you need to be torned appart into elementary particles... you'll die, transformed into basic contituents of the universe, incapable to influence it's course, but you 'll be back in time. \o/
