This is an interesting read for me that I very much needed. We decided early on for Protege to not be a 'community', because building a community would take time/resources away from the building the product.
However, in building the product and being open-source, a community has developed and we take that community very seriously. It's not a very active community, in regards to twitter chats or meet-ups, but we're very conscious about the fact that they're their because they trust us and what we're doing. This goes for both the technical side of things and developer friends involved in the project and also for our users.
I can say, with confidence, that the growth we've had is almost completely due to the community that has developed around the project from both the inside and outside.
