What people don't tell you about being a Software Engineer

Regardless of your skill level/years of experience, people Google search solutions every.single.day.
Many feel “imposter syndrome” even after years of experience.
Software engineering is thought to be this cush, high paying job. In reality, most developers probably work ~60+ hours per week, sometimes weekends, are on call if the app/site/software goes down, and tend to have general job stress.
It can actually be very difficult to get rich from a startup. Most fail, and if you are in one that is on track to be successful, you have to buy your stock options when you ever leave which can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and they may never be worth anything.
Engineers tend to be more social than people give them credit for.
They love the work so much, they would probably do it even if they weren’t getting paid.
You don’t need a college degree to do it, but you do need to be highly motivated.
You must put in a lot of time to continue learning to stay relevant with the ever-changing technology and trends.
You actually need people-skills to be successful
