Hey John, you give me the courage to be part of dev.to as well. I'm 58 and getting back into programming again professionally after a 9-year break!
I've enjoyed the content on this site as a hobbyist programmer during the last few years - especially the Functional Programming (FP) articles. As I'm back working with C# I'm looking at contributing something here about my FP journey back into C#.
"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning." — Rick Cook
I invite you to check out how to put the Universe in defense and stop its winning stride - starting to think and act the oOo way ... May the power of oOo be with you!

Hey folks, I’m Tiani but most call me T as it’s easier. I have always been attracted to the cyber world and its functionality. I’m a self taught (and always learning) frontend person (I don’t quite feel comfortable calling myself a developer as I’ve been off and on learning as time permits it, primarily through FCC and W3Schools.) I’m 33 years old and a married momma of 5 who is a PT building lead for a commercial cleaning company. I’ve been wanting to break into tech for a long time, even in a PT position, primarily to gain more and build my skills. I enjoy making things look “pretty” and functionally sound.
Not sure what else to say, so I guess if anything if anyone has questions feel free to ask, I’m an open book. ☺️☺️
Hello, Tiani! Be welcome to our community! I feel so happy that in every Welcome Thread, more and more women are joining us. Talking about frontend, do you know websites like CodePen and Frontend Mentor?
Thank you for such the kind welcome, Thaísa!! I know about Codepen, it’s where I have to build the projects from FCC and submit them to get certified by them ☺️☺️ and through one of the posts here I just learned of Frontend Mentor! Definitely something that I’m going to be looking in to soon, as well as a number of the other extensions that were inside the one post. I plan on grabbing a few and adding them to my browser 🙂🙂
It took me a while (and apparently getting with the right guy 😅😅) to admit my love for doing frontend development.
I'm sure you'll build great projects with Frontend Mentor too! Have a great journey!
Hello Tiani! Welcome on dev!
Thank you very much, Antonio! It’s a pleasure to be part of this wonderful community!!
Hello everyone, we are the TECNO Security Vulnerability Bounty Program, we look forward to working with ethical hackers worldwide. If you find a security vulnerability in TECNO products or services, please submit it to us as soon as possible!
Hey everyone, I am surya. Still in my teenage era :) I’m a budding web developer who skilled in html, css, tailwind, bootstrap, and javaScript . I’m here to improve my frontend skills as well as my programming skills.
Hello, Surya! Be welcome to our community! Do you know Frontend Mentor? It's a website with real-life projects for all levels to practice.
Hello Thaisa vieira! I don't know the front end mentor website. I'll look upon it and thanks for letting me know :).
Also check the learning paths from Frontend Mentor, it's something like a guide for topics like responsivity. It's helping me a lot with my studies
Yeah sure.
Hi, I'm Moth. A husband and father of two, I enjoy fishing, hiking, DIY projects, playing Fortnite with family, OSRS, restoring a 1991 Nissan 300zx. I'm an overly optimistic jack of all trades.
I'm just beginning my journey. One of the tasks in this course is to participate in the community. This is how I found DEV, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to meet and learn from each of you here.
This section of the pre-course work has a practice for pseudocode, here is my write up, let me know what you think! :
//Algorithm: Make the bed
// Tasks:
// Spread Fancy Yellow Comforter
// Fold Gray comforter
// Stack White pillows
// Stack Fancy pillows
// Pattern recognition:
// Yellow comforter goes on first
// Grey comforter gets folded
// Fancy pillows are stacked on top of white pillows
// Abstraction:
// Ignore pillow cases
// Ignore white sheet
// Sequence:
//1. Event 1: Spread the comforters:
// Conditional: If (a comforter is yellow) {
// Spread it on top
// } else {
// Gets folded
// }
//Debug: A comforter has a stain on it - what do we do?
// Conditional: If (a comforter is stained) {
// Put it in laundry
// } else if (comforter is yellow)
// Spread it on mattress
// } else if (comforter is gray) {
// Gets folded
// }
//2. Event 2: Stack the pillows:
// Conditional: If (pillow is stained) {
// Put it in laundry
// } else if (pillow is white) {
// Put it on bottom
// } else if (pillow is fancy) {
// Put it on top
// }
Haha, never seen pseudocode written like that, in a good way! Looks like you are on track!
Maybe you could have used the
code
, orMake it shine out more. Second post here, so I'm just rambling.
Thank you Liston!! I'm not sure I understand, but I want to learn! Please explain your suggestion to me

Hello everyone!
I'm a self-taught Ruby developer, and next month marks two years since I completed my internship. Since then, I've been working full-time as a Ruby developer. Beyond my professional experience, I have taken on a mentorship role with FirstRubyFriend.org, helping entry-level individuals get started with Rails. I am an active participant in the Ruby community, regularly attending local Ruby user group meet-ups and conferences. Additionally, I am the creator of ActiveRubyist.com, a platform that will feature news, articles, event listings, and community groups related to Ruby. I recently started blogging on Dev.to, where I've begun a series about career change, with plans for a more technical series in the near future.
I look forward to connecting with you!
Hello, wonderful people! I am Sourish from Kolkata, India. At 27, I have been a software engineer at a SaaS startup for almost two years, working with VueJs, MongoDb, and NestJs. When I am not typing, I draw portraits and do weighted pullups (I want to be Batman when I grow up!). I am looking to learn Python. Let me know if you're interested. We can achieve this together. This community has always been one of my favourite platforms to learn new stuff, and I hope to contribute someday! Have a great day, and thanks for introducing your awesome selves.

Hello!! My name is Rob, and I started my developer journey in 2012 in my first job.
During the years i've said "Hello World" in many languages but i can say my "main" ones are Java, and Javascript/Typescript.
In the last few years i change my job from developer to more of a "solution architect" one, so i end up writing a lot more slides and documents than line of code...
That's why I've joined DEV Community! to get back in touch with other developers and to get my hand dirty in compiler errors and crashes.
I've never been the guy with a well curated github profile, but i'm planning to create one so it's coming!
Thank you for wasting a little bit of your time reading this!
Rob
Hello, Rob! Welcome to our community!

Hello from London. I am a seasoned Web Developer with UI Design experience, as well. I signed up on DEV to build up connections with like minded individuals, learn new things related to tech and also, as and when, write some content of my own.
Hello, my name is Rim. I'm currently learning web development, I started with HTML few days ago. It does feel overwhelming but I have to keep learning. I want to be a software developer one day, and hopefully a game developer as well. I always considered myself to not be the type of individual who would understand coding and complicated things. I am embarking on this journey even though I don't fully trust that I'm going to succeed at it. I quit university and I'm currently learning by myself which is hard.
Good morning, I'm Joe, and I'm using this platform to encourage my learning of Linux. Unlike my experience with Windows, I'm learning CLI/Terminal. I learned the difference between fstab and udev. fstab is used primarily for mounting internal drives, kernels, partitions, etc. where udev subsystems uses alias so you can tell which USB device is plugged in which is important if you're working with robotics, or calling functions in a script so the code you use continues to work. The automount function with distributions that have desktop environment can change the name of the automount device if it's the same device that is plugged in. The system's goal is so you can interact with the USB device, not to assign it the same name as you disconnect and reconnect the device. By assigning an alias using information unique to the USB device, it will be easier to call functions and put it into a readable name versus the assigned name by the Linux machine. For illustration purposes, if you plugged in your USB device, and it assigned 'xyz' at the name of the device then next time you plugged it in it might be '23i' - that's not the naming conventions, but you get my meaning. With udev subsystems you can make your own alias and call it 'mydrive' or whatever you want, and it will show up in the /dev directory. I hope to post more about my journey. Take care.
Hey everyone, I'm Kartik and I'm diving headfirst into the world of DevOps! After facing some setbacks, I'm fired up and ready to take control of my career.
For those of you experienced DevOps engineers out there, I'd be incredibly grateful for any guidance on the best resources to learn the ropes. Whether it's online courses, tutorials, or even must-read books, any recommendations would be a massive help.
But learning isn't everything, I'm also eager to get my hands dirty with some practical experience. Project ideas – big or small – are most welcome! Contributing to real-world projects, even in a small way, would be an amazing way to solidify my understanding.
I know there's a lot to learn, but I'm determined and ready to collaborate with this fantastic community.
Thanks,
Kartik

My mission is to stop accountants, lawyers, doctors etc. from learning IT security strategies. Us as devs and IT engineers have failed the world in the cyber security arena and so it has come down to "Cyber Awareness" training. If we where doing our job from the get go these professions can dedicate there expertise to what they are meant to do...
Hi everyone, I'm Jovan and I'm a code wizard in training! My passion for software development was ignited by a video game I played as a kid. I was fascinated by how a few lines of code could create an entire virtual world. Now, I'm on a mission to turn my dreams into reality, one line of code at a time. But enough about me, I want to know about all of you. Share your stories and let's geek out together!
Hello Jovan,

It appears that you've posted the same comment twice.
Yes, my bad. An error occurred while posting it the first time. Later realized that it has been posted twice.
No worry! all cool :-)
Hey everyone! My name is Billy, I'm a 39 year old Security Engineer for Mapbox! I have spent the majority of my career bouncing from role to role, learning as much as I can along the way and finally settled into Application Security with a focus on Security of Applications in the Cloud and Cloud Infrastructure (load of BS right there, isn't it).
I've also built up a decent skillset at development, though I'd hardly call myself a Software Engineer. I'm mediocre and have learned that 8/10 times, you can fake it till you make it, or ask Google/StackOverflow/Reddit (if you are desperate) for help!
I'm happy to be here and hope to learn a lot from all you fine folk!

Hi, my name is Daniel. I'm mostly self-taught, still going to school to get as much as I can on paper before I pursue a job. I have switched career so a bit unconfident even I have done this over 4 years got the highest grade when doing a course I which I did not meet the requirements for, but got in any way. Furthermore, I look at it like, I must have been lucky the teacher liked me, and the rest of the students were not good in the field of node.js, even they worked in IT for at least 1 year. It made me think doe, maybe I am ready, I don't NEED an extra 2-year course in frontend development. Which I will start in spring. I look at it anyway like, the school got a lot of learning in workplace and most people get work straight away after done with school. As they already got a foot in a workplace. And if most of the beginning of the course comes easy for me, more time to perfect and learn ahead and show a lot of interest and effort. And find the right word I'm looking for here, anyway I show a good energy to learn and open to everything new.
Hi my name is Sim lloyd separes.
i am excited to interact in this platform because of the opportunity to learn and explore new things.
i am a beginner at webdev an eager to learn more about a certain language specifically the javascript.
i hope to learn more about it and always thankfull to those peaople who share their knowledge and experience .
GodBless you all
Hey I'm Jascha,
Got here via reddit somehow. I'm an experienced engineer/EM that worked in a few startups in Germany.
Started with Fin Tech did some AI and my last job was in NoCode + Data. After that I tried to found my own startup but ended up open sourcing the project: github.com/kviklet/kviklet
Kviklet is my take at solving a problem that I saw in all my previous jobs: (How) should devs access production?
How do you fix those pesky prod issues without giving everyone admin permissions.
Kviklet is a Review/Approval tool that supports SSO and audit logging for database access. My idea is that this Pull request like flow is compliant and secure through the four eyes principle but still allows a fast and flexible modern devops workflow.
Anyways enough pitching. I will continue working on Kviklet in my free time but will also be looking for a new daytime job soon. Not sure yet which domain it will be but I'm excited to learn something new again!
Gunjit here to learn coding and development also to explore the world of programming.
Welcome Gunjit on DEV!

I am one known as Eric. I am part of the strange and alien race of Android Developers.
I joined the race of Android after deciding that working in warehouses was not a sustainable life for me. So I taught myself Java, later on Kotlin too, and Android.
I taught myself to code on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
There was an Android app called AIDE (Android Integrated Developing Environment).
It's been 10 years since then. If I can go from having no education to having a successful career in software you can too!
That said, before choosing to Software for money be warned that corporate life can be a nightmare. Don't be afraid to ditch an employer who is toxic. Other then that, software is a ton of fun!

Hello, I'm Jose, I'm 38 years old, I'm Mexican, I've been in industrial automation for 12+ years and the last one and a half year I've been working with Xcode. I learnt by myself, I followed Angela Yu bootcamp, and later I started my own projects. Currently I would like to start working on freelance projects or to get a fixed position as an iOS developer. It's been a little tough starting to learn something new, but now I feel confident to do interesting things. If there's someone needing a helping hand with iOS development I would appreciate very much to be considered. Or even if there's no payment, just to get more experience and to meet people I would love to learn more about it.
Greetings,
Jose
