Happy to join the group. I'm Nicholas Rodrigo. I started my career in 1985 DP era as analyst programmer to design small systems in COBOL. It passed the time and I worked as IT Systems Manager looking after 24 x 7 mission critical systems for 20 years. And managed 3 Oracle databases on AIX in IBM RS 6000 Server. As an active full-time assignment I worked as a project manager/ consultant at PwC Colombo. I didn't think of work full-time to enjoy my retirement. But learned 4 months part time - 3 hours per day x 5 days x 4 months -certificate course in Python including, data science using pandas and numpy, python with database SQL server and my SQL, tkinter GUI and. Developed a container management system in Python as a project.
Now I have a grandson too to play with.
All my children are migrated.

I'm here to promote a technology that I've been playing with a little for the past 3 years but didn't had the chance to really deep dive. I'm here to share my journey of learning circuit design using FPGA with VHDL and Verilog, along with some bare-metal C and ARM assembly.
Found this site in my Google news feed. Have always wanted to at least get some basic coding skills, and after lurking a while figured I'd make an account and follow the beginner topics.
At an age where career shifting to a developer would most likely be financially disadvantageous, but still want the skill for problems as they arise.
Most of my experience is in Networking, Linux, and Fixing Windows issues for people more often than not. Currently the Lead of problem management where I work in a company that is trying really hard to comingle ITIL principles and Agile and DevSecOps methodologies.
Will most likely be following Python at this point and working outwards from there as necessary.

I've been a software developer for about 8 years now, mainly in C# and SQL.
Early on I tried to do some frontend but found I wasn't confident enough to take it further, so tried to get my backend skills further developed before looking into it again.
I found this site when on a dev.to lesson via Kevin Powell's demystified course I'm working my way through!
I wasn't a confident frontend dev, I always found that there was too many properties and I got myself stuck etc....
I get into work early to start my training, which was via Kevin Powell, I built a booking app prior to this and it wasn't great! After I watched Kevins vids, I straight away changed ALOT of code and saw what I was doing wrong.
I've grown more and I'm starting to do more in frontend dev, to which I started looking into React and I really enjoyed learning the concept of components, as it actually helped with my CSS training!
I've gone from thinking I can't do frontend, to actually starting to prefer it, due to the fact I can see my work.
I'm helping to push our company further with new tech and my senior devs are so helpful and encouraging when it comes to my training etc.
I hope I find a lot of new things out here and new people as well.
