Introducing our September 2018 sponsors

ben profile image Ben Halpern ・2 min read

Our wonderful sponsors are vital to the health of dev.to and it is great to work with companies contributing so much to the ecosystem.

These three developer platforms are leaders in their space and I urge you to check out their offerings if you have not yet done so. Seriously, take a few minutes right now to poke around their product guides and documentation.

Digital Ocean

Digital Ocean is a much-loved cloud computing platform. I'm always impressed by how well-built and well-documented the Digital Ocean core products are. It's easier said than done, and they've been able to stay ahead of the curve.

Digital Ocean has been our longest-running supporter to date, and we're extremely thankful for their consistent support. We'll be hosting a Hacktoberfest event next month in NYC — stay tuned for more details!

Twilio

Twilio has been a great friend of ours since early in the dev.to days. We are users of their APIs, and folks from our team are always excited to get involved in their community initiatives. It's great to have them as a sponsor!

I can personally say that we chose Twilio Video because it made really great use of native peer-to-peer browser technology while also offering Twilio's infrastructure for necessary use cases wrapped in the same API. The docs and examples were well-organized and getting up and running was a synch.

Qlik Playground

Qlik Playground is a programming environment that allows you to use, explore, and quickly test apps that use Qlik technology. Qlik is a data analytics platform used in pretty much every industry for ingestion, visualization, and analysis.

Developing against these kinds of products can be burdensome without developer tools like Qlik Playground. It is this tool specifically that has our team eyeing Qlik as a possible solution as we scale dev.to.

These organizations are helping us build the best community we can. I urge you to check out their offerings if you are in the market for their services.

Happy coding ❤️

Twilio and Qlik were no-brainer sponsors and have both been excellent to work with. Thank you for supporting the DEV Community!

DigitalOcean, welcome back. Y'all are the best :)

I know this is a commercial but because I love this community, I did take the time to learn more about the sponsors. GG.

Yay!

We're a business and we're trying to pay the bills, but we really try hard to make this all work for everyone involved.

I feel like this kind of tldr on the services folks may consider checking out is pretty useful.

Anyway, thanks for the support Jaime.

I did the same. We actually moved a lot of our apps to DigitalOcean and are working on a migration plan for the others. I'm a big fan of DO.

I understand this is commercial but it's sad that you guys in US have to pay 5 times as much as we do in Europe for the same services...

We appreciate it too! And we're definitely digging this community.

Hey Alex, I'm really excited that you use (and love using) Twilio! I'd love to know what you're using it for. Also, if there's ever anything I can help with give me a shout on connect!

Wow I did not know Qlik, but now it is essential, excellent

Good to hear, Alberto! Let us know if you have any questions as you learn more about our dev resources.

Thanks for sharing that! I bet that auto assignment via SMS does make life easier if there's only a few of you working there!

As for managing conversations over SMS, Flex could handle that, but as you say, may well be overkill. I've seen success for SMS (and other channels) using Front. You can hook your Twilio number up to it and away you go.

Alternatively, it wouldn't be too much to build. I have a demo project that is the start of something you could use here: github.com/philnash/sms-messages-app

No worries, let me know if there's anything I can help with!

Keep up the good work, team DEV! 👏
Also, can't wait for #Hacktoberfest Maedah and I are arranging our third event this year.

Any chance of another sponsor hackathon like the one you did with Pusher some time soon?

BTW, love DigitalOcean. I highly recommend them!
