JavaScript is the most popular programming language by a wide margin, with nearly 16.5M developers using it globally. Notably, the JavaScript community has been growing in size consistently for the past several years.
4M developers joined the community in the last year - by far the highest growth in absolute terms across all languages - and upwards of 2.5M developers joined in the past six months alone.
Even in software sectors where JavaScript is not among developers’ top choices, like data science or embedded development, about a fourth of developers use it in their projects. Τhe same stands for developers involved in web development, with 54% preferring JavaScript.

We are looking to further understand web developers, their preferences in other topics apart languages and go deeper into their pain points. Web platforms and web standards are constantly changing. It looks like web devs find it challenging to keep up with a large number of tools and frameworks at work. The lack of support and the speed with which web standards change seem to be some of the reasons behind that, but we want to hear from more professional web developers about this.
What are the biggest challenges you face when building a website or web app?
Which types of features are giving you a hard time across browsers?
We have a new poll out on web development to understand your pain points and challenges.
It will take less than 4 minutes and as a thank you we are including several prize draws!
