Web3 Solidity + JavaScript 32 hour course recap #1

D0 00:00 - 08:42
Patrick Collin's course for learning Solidity for Web3 in JavaScript was published today on FreeCodeCamp. It is 32 hours long.

I made it through the first 8 minutes and 42 seconds tonight. It was mostly just hype and throwing around buzzwords.

I have many goals surrounding this, but I'm going to try and spend one hour every day working through the video until I am done with the entire course.

I am also going to record myself working my way through the course, and I am going to try to write something quick about what I've learned every day, and maybe sometimes write a proper blog post if something is giving me enough issues.

My overarching goals for this is very transparent: I am unhappy at my day job. I would love to be able to get Web3 developer grants for the backend of at least one of my side projects. However, I am also open to transitioning into some sort of Web3 role.

My overall reaction is that I am surprised that a blockchain developer is only making, on average, $145k a year because I was hearing $200k+ on Twitter, and there's really no difference between a blockchain developer's salary and a mid-level programmer.

That being said, there's virtually 0 risk for developers to learn Web3 since the skills translate directly into Web2, and with software development we always have to be learning something new if we want to keep up with the industry.

Do share your experience throughout the course. I will also start watching that video soon.
