How can a third-party video management software platform (VMS) manage multi-brands video devices?

The most important way is to build up communication bridge between front-end video devices and VMS platform, and make sure the communication between front-end video devices and platform can be put through.

What are the communication bridge between front-end video devices and VMS platform?

The most common way is using standard protocols, such as ONVIF, RTSP, GB/T28181. Nowadays most famous overseas video surveillance manufacturers all support the standard protocol ONVIF, RTSP, which enable VMS system easily to access their video devices (such as IP cameras, and NVR).

However the protocols like ONVIF, RTSP are usually used in LAN network. If for video devices connecting in WAN network between VMS platform, GB/T28181 protocol is undoubtedly good choice. However this GB/T28181 protocol is very popular in China’s video surveillance market not for overseas market. Because in China most of video devices will support this protocol when go out of the factory.

Therefore many mainstream video surveillance manufacturers also provide their own private protocols which enable third-party VMS platform to manage front-end video devices via LAN and WAN network conveniently. For example, Hikvision provides Ehome/ISUP protocol, Dahua provides auto register protocol, TVT provides active register protocol etc. Some video surveillance manufacturers also provide P2P protocols, such as XM P2P protocol, Topsee P2P protocol etc.

If the video devices don’t have any protocols, the platform also can build up the communication bridge by integrating video device’s SDK.

Therefore for the VMS system, the more protocols it supports, the easier it can put through communication with the front-end video devices.

Set video management software platform SVMS Pro for example. It can support multiple standard protocols, such as ONVIF, RTSP, RTMP, HLS, WS-FLV, HTTP-FLV, GB/T28181 etc. It also supports many mainstream manufacturers private protocols, such as Hikvision Ehome/ISUP, Dahua auto register protocol, TVT active register protocol, Huawei active protocol, IMOU cloud protocol, EZVIZ cloud protocol etc, and many other manufacturers P2P protocol, such as XM P2P protocol, Topsee P2P protocol etc. What’s more? SVMS Pro also has strong ability to integrate SDK of video devices very fast. All of these make SVMSPro easily access to multiple brands of front-end video devices via various kinds of network environment: LAN, WAN, VPN, 4G/5G digital network etc and manage those devices conveniently all in on platform.
