Earlier this year, I started contributing to open source -- and enjoy doing it.
From this experience, I learned two main lessons:
- You can start contributing anytime,
- You don't need to code to contribute.
For non-developers, you can contribute in many (7) different ways:
- Sponsor open-source projects,
- Translate,
- Document,
- Test,
- Manage issues,
- Design,
- Engage in communities -- joining discussions, giving talks, and helping spread the word.
There's more.
You can support open-source projects on Product Hunt, too.
Supporting OSS projects on Product Hunt
Product Hunt features new products daily. It gets millions of visits every month.
For open-source maintainers, launching on Product Hunt is an opportunity to raise awareness. And they need support!
We're in October, it's #Hacktoberfest. There's no better time to start contributing.
Let's celebrate this month by supporting open-source products.
