THE SELF TAUGHT DEVELOPER

A self taught developer is a person who disciplines him/herself to learn coding without the guidance of people such as the teachers or professors of an educative institution. When teaching yourself to code, you learn on your own schedule using free or paid online / offline resources. Self learning and self education is one of the most efficient and effective form of education that has ever existed and still existing.

I would outline the path that would help in been an outstanding self taught developer

*The dos;

  • Work on basics
  • Practice coding
  • Eagerness to learn new things both online(virtual) and physical
  • Write simple and logical code
  • Read documentation and read blogs, tech news
  • Discuss problems with friends
  • Always analyse and review code
  • Keep yourself fresh and healthy
  • Maintain consistency
  • You'll keep forgetting things so keep learning again
  • Master one thing instead of focusing on multiple
  • Avoid procrastination

The don'ts!

  • Giving up too soon
  • Refusing to ask for help
  • Passing blame to others
  • Not knowing how to optimize code
  • Not learning from mistakes
  • Bad naming conventions

Friends of every self-taught coder
