DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEB2 AND WEB3

Today we will be looking at the difference between web2 and web3. As many of us know, these words-(Bitcoin, blockchain, ETH, meta, smart contract, web3, web2, etc.) Has been on our screens more lately. Almost everyone you meet is saying something about this technology becoming the future of Tech, finance and how it will take over banks in the nearest future. You will hear things like,(the meta verse has come to stay and so on...) Not to even go far, Facebook, one of the big names in the tech industry, has changed her name to Meta, some companies too are buying shares in bitcoin and buying space for their company in the metaverse. This is just to show us how these technologies are about to take over really.

So, in order not to deviate from my topic, which is the difference between web2 and web3. I would like to first explain what each of these technologies are because you may see these names and think they are something inexplicable not knowing they are technologies we have been using one way or another already. So let's dive right into it.

What is web2

Web 2.0 mostly called web2 is also known as participative (or participatory) web and social web) it refers to websites that emphasize user-generated content. A Web 2 website allows users to interact and collaborate with each other through social media dialogue as creators of user-generated content in a virtual community. This contrasts the first generation of Web 1.0-era websites where people were limited to viewing content in a passive manner.

Examples of Web 2.0 features include social networking sites or social media sites (e.g., Facebook), blogs, wikis, folksonomies ("tagging" keywords on websites and links), video sharing sites (e.g., YouTube), image sharing sites (e.g., Flickr), hosted services, Web applications ("apps"), collaborative consumption platforms, and mashup applications.

What is web3

Web3 (also known as Web 3.0 and sometimes stylized as web3) is an idea for a new iteration of the World Wide Web based on blockchain technology, which incorporates concepts including decentralization and token-based economics. Technologists and journalists have described Web3 as a possible solution to concerns about the over-centralization of the web in a few "Big Tech" companies. Some have expressed the notion that Web3 could improve data security, scalability, and privacy beyond what is currently possible with Web 2.0 platforms.

The Evolution to Web3.0

Looking back, the starting point of Web1 was probably the Netscape web browser. The start of Web3 could be the launch of the Bitcoin network. The decentralized cryptocurrency needs neither banks nor central banks but represents a peer-to-peer network based on blockchain technology.

NFTs are another Web3 application. NFTs represent securitized ownership of a uniquely identifiable digital asset, such as ownership of a graphic, artwork, or domain.
All these use cases could eventually come together in the so-called metaverse: The metaverse is a virtual reality where people communicate, trade, play, learn, or otherwise interact with each other. Unlike in Web2, where the user is the product, in Web3, the user is also the owner.

Web2 refers to the version of the internet most of us know today. An internet dominated by companies that provide services in exchange for your personal data. Web3, in the context of Ethereum, refers to decentralized apps, for example, Cryptokitties - a game based on Ethereum. It slowed Ethereum down due to insufficient transaction processing and exposed the scaling limitations of public blockchains. Blockstack - a platform for developing decentralized applications. Freelance - platform on smart contract. Steem - blogging and social media. Uniswap - a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange.
