How I got started with KubeCon 22

KubeCon is a yearly conference organized by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation to gather top technologists from leading open-source and cloud-native communities in a unique hybrid setting to further the education and advancement of cloud-native computing.
In the past year, KubeCon featured 225 talks including 68 Maintainer Track Sessions, 21 Keynotes, and 136 Breakouts. To know more about it visit the event page.

How I found it

To be honest, I never heard about it. At least it was the situation a few months ago. Although due to open source I knew about CNCF Community, somehow, I never came to know about this. The first time I heard about it was from Kunal Kushwaha's YT Channel. For some time, I was following his playlists. I guess that is why his video about Kubecon appeared on my feed eventually (but it was late). Anyways, as soon as I found out about it, I applied.

Getting familiar

Usually, the next thing I did was to get to look for more information about the event. Checking out past attendees' blog posts in medium, hashnode, dev.to, videos in yt, Kubecon's Twitter and YouTube handles, etc. Everything I could find to get an idea. And I will recommend this to everyone when getting into something new. It gives a brief idea about what to expect, insights, and things to be cautious about. Other's experience often helps avoid the wish I knew situation.

Won the Scholarship

I was a bit late by the time I found out about this. The last date for Travel Scholarship Application submission was crossed. I could only apply for the Virtual Conference. It was pretty sad, but something better than nothing. I wasn't even sure I would get accepted even in that.

But in time, I received the mail, and it was exciting.

Let's get involved

The process of registration is straightforward. It is well-guided throughout, one needs to input valid details, select the events, input the secret code and voila. A mail will then be provided with event details and a temporary password for later log-in.

There are different types of events:

  1. In-Person Only: Detroit, Michigan this time.
  2. In-Person + Virtual
  3. Virtual Only

For some virtual events (e.g., Canonical Operator Day), one needs to register differently on another site. The event details were already provided via mail by the CNCF Events Team. But the schedule also can be viewed here.

The day before the event starts, an online profile will be unlocked. You can log in using the temporary password. Here, everything about the event can be found. There are different sections like Keynotes, Co-located Events + Sessions, My Agenda, Speakers, Solutions Showcase, Special Offers, etc.
