Recently I've been trying to help other people from LinkedIn, Reddit, and X (formally Twitter) prepare for, and pass the AZ 104 Azure Administrator exam. When I was studying for my exam, the GitHub AZ 104 labs were a huge help with getting some hands on experience and put what I was learning into practice. Since that time last year, there has been some changes to Azure, specifically Azure AD changing over to Microsoft Entra ID, which has effected the first lab. I'm going to walk you through how to set up your P2 license trial and what to do about the new tenant.
To complete the first lab, you are required to create dynamic groups which require the Entra ID P2 license. Normally this license would cost you 9$ per month, per user. Now when you have a new account whether that's a free account or signed up with your own pay as you go subscription, you get a free 30 day trial of the P2 license with your tenant.
The first thing you'll want to do is to head to your Microsoft Entra ID page.
From here, look for the license tab under the "Manage" section of your Entra ID on the left hand side.
Once in the Licenses overview page, on the left hand side under manage, click on "All Products".
From the top of this page, select the Try/Buy option to bring up the free trial options.
-Click on the drop down arrow next to Free trial on the Entra ID P2 option and click activate.
- After you've activated the free trial, this may take a few minutes to register. Give azure a couple minutes to register everything and then give a page a refresh and your license should now be listed on the all products page that you went to, to activate your free trial.
When I was studying for my AZ 104 exam last year, Microsoft Entra Id was still Azure Active Directory, with the change to Microsoft Entra also came a change to creating a new tenant. This part of the first lab has been updated to optional. If you have a paid account, you're able to go in and create a new tenant like the lab suggested. If you do not have the ability to create a new tenant, you still have a virtual way of doing so by clicking through the interactive lab environment just to see how it's done.
I hope this helps you all who are hard at work preparing for those exams and looking for a little hands-on practice with what you're learning. Best of luck to you on your exam, if you do not pass the first time do not worry, it's totally fine! Many people don't pass the first time, it's just a test, go back and review your week spots from the printout at the end and go get 'em next time!
