Hi guys!
Did you ever attend any dev conference?
I've been developing for almost 20 years but I discovered dev conferences only in 2016. That year, I had the chance to attend the very famous devoxx conference in Paris. The tickets, the train and the hotel room were paid by my company.
It was very exciting! Meeting so many developers, hearing some famous speakers talking about hot topics, getting my first stickers... π
That was also after this event that I wrote my first blog post on the corporate social network. And that I started to blog.
I usually try to be very open-minded when I attend such events. I don't go to the talks about my favorite stack. I prefer attend talks about some exotic technology (blockchain, rust, ...) or hear feedbacks from people who experimented something new in production (CQRS, docker, microservices, ...). I also like talks about testing, devops and agility.
Now, let me introduce you to the events I had the chance to go.

I'm looking to go to my first conference this year, which is in a different country!
I see Devoxx was much larger than the other two you went to. Did you notice much of a difference in the way they were run or the atmosphere?
I did some research on tech conferences and ended up creating a filterable list of them on my website here: databasestar.com/tech-conferences/ - for those that are interested.
Devoxx is one of the largest dev conf in the world. It is in Paris. Nevertheless, I went there twice and I found it was quite welcoming. At the end of the day, there are some unformal discussions between attendees and the staff that help meeting new people.
BreizhCamp and CodeurEnSeine are much smaller and it makes people meet much easier. It happens in small cities (< 200.000). Tech topics are a bit limited but the fact that most of the speakers and attendees are local people make talks more meaningful.
Thanks for your list, that's what I've been looking for. Unfortunately, I can't see all the confs. I guess it would be a big stuff to be exhaustive, but did you think about making the list collaborative ?
And how will you manage the list next year ?
Good to hear your feedback on Devoxx!
I have thought about making the list collaborative. The feature I used to create the list allows user submissions, so I can enable that. This would allow others to submit. For the moment, the post has comments.
Next year I plan on updating it by researching the existing conferences, updating dates if they are still on, and adding new ones.
Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Boris, thank you for this discussion !
I haven't had the chance yet to go to any dev conf, but am from France as well, so I'm looking for events to go to. Do you know if there is any website of some sort that would list all the events ?
Hello. Take a look at Confs.tech. You can filter by country and technology.
Hi, I don't know if a such list exists else it would be interesting to build a list of confs per country.

My first conference attendance was in 2014 on "Smyfony Day Lisbon", which was a one day event organized by the Portuguese Symfony community.
Then in the last two years I went to techinporto, which is a conference created and organized by the company that I currently work for, that aims to promote PortoΒ΄s IT scene. It is a growing event and it has the potential to become one of the most important tech events in Portugal.
Finally, last december I attended to SymfonyCon, which was huge compared to the others I have attended.
All of these were in my country, Portugal so it was easier to attend.
On the end of this month I will be in Paris for dotgo conference, which will be my first international conference.
Some devs of my team will be at dotgo too π
