Data science: telling the outcome of a table tennis game

Data science refers to: using data to tell the future.

I did a simple project to tell the outcome of table tennis games.

I chose games from these tournaments because I was able to confirm their data on multiple platforms.
Setka cup, Czech Republic TT star series, Pro League Czech Republic , TT cup world

There are many things that are thought to influence the outcome of a game.

Such as the Form(a player performance in the previous games played) of the players, The preparation of the players for the game,

H2H history( the history of results of games played between both players), rank of a player in terms of skill, experience of player, etc.

From this project, I realised that THE FACTOR that determines the winner of a table tennis game is the H2H history between both players.

By interpreting the factor correctly, I was able to tell the winner of 47 out of 50 games.

I attribute the outcome of the 3 lost game, to unexpected events that could not be accounted for in the data I was working with.

Such unexpected events could include: luck, preparedness of players before the game, fitness of players, change of style of players, ect.

I have not been able to tell the exact correct score of a table tennis game yet, as I have not identified THE FACTOR that determines the correct score.

CONCLUSION

To tell the winner of a table tennis game from data,

1) Identify THE FACTOR that determines the outcome of games.

2) INTERPRET the factor correctly to know the game's winner.

3) If your expected winner loses the game, that should be as a result of unexpected circumstance that your data could not account for,

and not because you were unsure of your choice of winner.

My aim is to use Data science to help companies to tell future events.

For example, to help a Sportswear shop to know WHO amongst a group of potential shoppers WILL make a purchase.
