Advice needed: How not to get frustrated when time runs out

I notice that I get frustrated quite easily when the time for a task runs out. This do not necessarily have to be deadlines that are not met, but also self imposed time frames for tasks.

Especially today was a rough day in which I did not complete much of the tasks I thought I would be able to do today. I'm at a point right now where I say quit that and ask the DEV community for help and advice.

How do you deal with the frustration or what are your methods to prevent this?

It kind of depends on the situation, and then again, maybe it does not.

For me it often helps to ask myself questions, e.g.:

  • Why did I expect to get this done in x amount of time? What actually happened?
  • What do I feel right now? Frustration? Anger? Fear? Disappointment?
  • What do I need right now?
  • Can somebody else help me with task x?

Coming up with the right question to break you out of your frustration can be hard. That's ok, it might not work every time.
But then, when you get to the core of what's actually the issue, you can take care of it in a much better way.

Also, I asking for help is a good thing that I rarely do, but you just did that by writing your post. Thanks for reminding me!
