As a new computer science student, I entered this academic year with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Like many, I assumed that my peers would share a deep interest in computers, particularly in the intricacies of programming and software development. However, my initial experience has been quite surprising.
Contrary to my expectations, I found that many of my fellow freshmen have little to no experience in computer programming. It was a revelation to discover that a significant number of students, who chose to major in computer science, are virtually starting from scratch in understanding how software is created. While some of them may have a basic knowledge of computer hardware, their understanding of the software side is often minimal or non-existent.
This isn't to say that these students are lacking in intelligence or potential. On the contrary, they are bright and eager to learn. However, it seems that their interests have not yet fully aligned with the core elements of computer science, particularly in areas like coding and software development.
Interestingly, I have encountered a small group of students—perhaps one or two—who share my passion for technology and programming. These students stand out, not just because they have a head start in the field, but because they seem to have an innate curiosity and drive to explore the field.
I thought me and my newfriends would talk about technologies but it seems that's not the case.
