Communication is key to success - be it verbal or written!
Should that prevent a techy from conquering their aspirations?
As we all know India has a diverse set of cultures and heritage with almost every state having a specific language and many smart and talented students learning in their mother tongue as a medium of instruction.
English being our global language for communication, some students stumble when they move up to higher education or when they start working with colleagues/clients across the states and countries.
Here are my tiny tips for many folks I have mentored in the past and continue to do.
Start Thinking in English!
Since our native language/mother tongue is non-English, we often think in our mother tongue, translate and speak out loud. To convey a true sense of what we think and to improve communication skills, start thinking in English, with the same style and accent that you want to speak with. Practising this consciously for an hour per day will make a huge difference.Read English Magazine or News Paper regularly
Read it out loudly, preferably in front of the mirror.Attend / Join #toastmasters club in your neighbourhood (optional)
Frame Sentences of 5 new words a day
Write a Passage, daily on some topic.
Get it reviewed by peers or there are plenty of online tools these days.Speak out the corrected passage loud and do a video recording
Always carry a Smile on your face
It neither harms the giver nor the receiver but rather charmsWatch out for the 12 types of Tenses
Every week spend an hour reading in detail about 3 types of tenses and write down the rules, usage and frame sentences.
Unlearn, Learn, Review and Repeat the above process until you master the art of communication - be it writing or speaking!
