How to ask for a referral on LinkedIn

Asking for a referral on Linkedin is a good way to get closer towards your desired job. Though it doesn't guarantee you for the job, it increases the chance that your application will be seen by a recruiter or hiring manager. Referrals from the employees show your talents for a specific position to potential employers. Current employees can vouch for you and your talents and it’s a golden ticket of job seeking.

Things you should do before asking for a referral

1- Choose one good resume template and update your resume with relevant projects and experience according to the job role you are looking for. If you don’t have any experience then check out this video. Dm me on LinkdIn for some good resume tempalte.

2- Update your LinkedIn profile by adding details in various sections like headline, about summary, featured section, experience , skills , projects etc. If you need any help in optimizing your LikedIn profile then contact me on LinkedIn.

3- Start networking on LinkedIn and try to be active on Linkedin.
Engage with your network , you can also share some useful content,insights or thoughts through LinkedIn posts. This will show your activeness and you will be learning something new daily.

Steps to follow to ask for a referral

1- Make a list of companies in which you want to work.

2- Search employees of those companies and send them a connection request with a note by introducing yourself . Some examples are 👇

  • I’d love to join and add value to your professional network.

  • Hey (Name) I hope your week is off to a great start, I noticed we both work in the HR/Employee Experience field together. I would love to connect with you.

  • Hi (Name) I’m currently building a strong network on LinkedIn and I found your profile very interesting. Can we connect here?

3- Once your connection request is accepted then you can ask for a referral with proper introduction about your education,skills and the job role you are looking for. Also attach your resume. Templates for asking referral 👇

4- Atleast ask one referral daily, if you get a positive response then it is well and good otherwise don’t spam with the employees.
