I'm interested in learning what most developers associate with the word coaching. Many of us come from a self-taught background, while others come from more traditional schooling. And there is an entirely new generation of folks coming from specialized web development schools. In many of those environments the word mentorship is often used to describe the act of teaching or guidance. But does that also insinuate the act is free?
And what is the difference in expectations if it isn't free? Does the word coaching change if you're paying for the service?
What do you think of when you hear the phrase professional coaching for software development?
