I think it's hard to get started on Medium as someone with a small "audience" or "followers base". They have quite the algorithm going on (like everyone else, yes). Not sure it would work out great for an underdog like myself, though I know some benefit greatly from that platform.

I totally agree! It was very difficult for me to get followers. I started promoting my articles on Twitter to get some traffic and submitted to some publications. But you are totally correct that it is very hard. Compared to medium, dev.to gives good traffic.

I also heard that if you publish for an organization on Medium, if the organization decides to leave the platform, your content is gone with them. And it hurts your SEO too. It's almost like you disappeared from the net altogether. Moral of the story: don't put all your eggs in one basket 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I don't think this is true. I think they just transfer it back to your own account.

I have to admit the platform started out great but became money-hungry pretty fast. And I get it. We all need money to get by. It's hard to read anything on there without an account or a subscription. There's a paywall almost everywhere.

The paywall is so annoying. I am tired of opening everything in incognito. Moreover, traffic decreases as soon as your article is paid. Not everyone has a subscription! However, I think the recommendations are very addictive and curated which justifies the price point. I think they should have country wise prices to be honest, I'm in India and the value of $ is very high for me!
