I worked from home since March when the pandemic first really brought about restrictions. My company had no inclination of going back to a full-time office either. I have since then landed a new job which is also completely remote. I've heard many different views about remote working, I think a combination of remote and office work is what will be the future. Remote gives more freedom for people's lives and finances whereas the social aspect of office working is healthy for collaboration and just overall mental health too.
I can relate with the last part, that's why I use to spend most of my working hours in coworking spaces before the pandemic hit. I guess there are two different aspects WFH and work for a company remotely, which gives you the power to choose.
Also, I wonder if some companies see this as an opportunity to lower costs (office, consumables, etc)
Definitely, however, I think for companies it may be a coin toss. Whilst there are lower office costs, companies may have had to spend more to set up their employees remotely & there may be the indirect cost if morale and efficiency of work is lower.
