I’m not a traditional web developer or software engineer like a lot of the community, but I still have something to offer.

@helenanders26 , I think this gives you a really special perspective and positioning where you can connect with many people in the industry and in the dev community.

I think your contributions around databases and SQL are definetely more than simply "something to offer" πŸ‘Œ

Thanks @alanhylands ! Would love to see more of these πŸ‘

I agree completely James. I think we need to bust the myth that the only path to a career in tech is to have been coding our own operating systems on the family BBC Micro at age 5. And Helen is an excellent example of that trope being a load of rubbish!

I'm hoping to uncover more of these stories as the series goes on so do stay tuned. I've got another few ready to go at the minute but am always on the lookout for more willing volunteers so please make requests and I'll chase them up.

I’ve just published a post with advice for career switchers that came out of doing some self reflection for this Q&A. Thanks for getting me thinking about my journey to get to where I am now Alan ☺️

How boring would life be if all career paths were straight lines from school to retirement? :-D

Hearing stories of career switching and bringing skills from one area into another has been a great part of doing the series.
