In your experience: could a portfolio be a devlog?

I’ve got a really interesting slightly academic project a procedural floor plan generator which uses graph theory as it’s basis, I could write a paper about it but it’s quite visual and so I’d like to achieve 2 goals at once show it off and how I solve problems and hopefully that will lead to a cool portfolio with a narrative. Do you think a documentary/devlog style portfolio focussing on one project first would lead to a good portfolio or would it be confusing?

Im not sure what you mean with documentary. As in a devlog of the floor plan generator?

Well it sounds like a really cool idea. Regardless.
If you have the time and the motivation, who is stopping you? By not constraining yourself to the norms of what people expect of a portfolio you showcase that you are a creative thinker.

The best portfolios are ones that start as a showcase but tell a story when you dive into the details
