Seeking Advice: Navigating Entry-Level Remote Job Opportunities and Skill-Building

Hello, Dev Community! 👋

I’m Abel, a recent graduate with a degree in software engineering, and I’m reaching out to seek advice on breaking into the world of remote work. I’m from Ethiopia, and while I’ve built a foundation in web development with skills in Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Nest.js, and MongoDB, I’m keeping my options open to explore other tech fields. I’m especially interested in learning about entry-level remote job roles that can help me gain experience and gradually build up to something bigger.

Here’s a bit more context:

  • Current Skillset: My background is primarily in web development, but I’m open to exploring roles outside of it as well. I’m interested in any opportunity that can help me learn and grow—whether that’s data entry, IT support, QA testing, or even customer support roles.

  • Challenges: I’ve noticed my peers finding local opportunities, and I sometimes feel behind or uncertain if I’m good enough. I’m determined, though, to work on my skills and to find a remote opportunity where I can grow professionally and financially.

  • Goal: My goal is to build enough experience to become more competitive in the remote job market. I’m also motivated by the potential to earn remotely, as this would allow me to support myself and work toward bigger goals, including further education.

What I’m Looking For

  1. Guidance on Entry-Level Remote Roles: I’d love advice on remote job roles that are beginner-friendly and offer learning opportunities. I’m particularly open to roles that help me build essential skills (whether technical or soft skills) for tech-related career growth.

  2. Skills to Focus On: Any recommendations on high-demand skills or foundational knowledge that I can focus on while looking for a job would be incredibly helpful. I’d also love resources for self-study or beginner-level projects to build up a portfolio.

  3. Tips for Networking: I’m actively trying to reach out to people on platforms like LinkedIn, Discord, and here on Dev.to. If anyone has tips on building genuine connections online or reaching out for advice without feeling too forward, please share!

Why Remote Work?

Remote work offers the flexibility and opportunity to learn from people around the world, which is crucial for someone like me with limited access to in-person opportunities. My dream is to find an entry-level role that allows me to gain confidence, earn a stable income, and develop skills that open doors for the future.

Thank you for reading and for any advice you can provide! This community has always been a source of inspiration, and I’d be grateful for any insights, advice, or resources that could help me on this journey.
