The commute is definitely one of the main drivers of me getting a new job. It is a ridiculous amount of time - it's a bus then drive the rest of the way type deal.
As for the help desk job, this would be at a completely different company than any programming job I would acquire. It would mainly be a stepping stone to getting a job closer to home and something in the tech industry to learn some new things. Not sure if I can swing it though because the pay might be much, much less than I am making now.
Also, you are very right that I need to figure out why things become so boring for me. I know that every job I have long term will eventually become boring at one point or another, for one reason or another. Definitely food for thought.
