My leisure life would be learning new things. There are many different ways to learn, such as reading, listening and doing.
By visiting libraries regularly, I can read books and learn from the expert of the industries. Some authors are no longer living today but I could still benefit from their views in history. There are limited things I could see and experience by myself, and the insights I learn from others are valuable, such that I could get wisdom from these people. There are also practical books that I could learn specific skills and domain knowledge at my own pace. Reading newspapers and magazines are also useful to help better understand our worlds.
Listening is another way to learn as well, it could be in the format of a podcast, Youtube video or even in our day to day conversations. By paying attention to extract useful information, I would be able to absorb new knowledge in different situations, especially when I don’t have the luxury time to sit down and focus on reading a book. Listening to audiobook or lecture is an effective way to learn as some people are good at presentation making the content a lot more interesting and enjoyable than reading.
Lastly, to master a new skill, the best way to learn is to learn by doing. This applies to coding, public speaking, leadership, etc. It takes practice and feedback to become better. Writing my learnings down in blog posts and sharing my thoughts in daily conversation, also helps to memorise the new knowledge and better grasp the new ideas.
Overall, the process of learning makes me feel personally meaningful instead of a waste of time. Having a study plan on different areas including technical knowledge and soft skills is worthwhile. The learning process could be frustrating sometimes, but also rewarding and enjoyable after overcoming the difficulties. This would also increase my productivity and become more efficient to perform my roles, and I would be able to better handling of uncertainty.
