CLI-Command Line Interpreter

The command-line interpreter (CLI) for windows is CMD.EXE. Also, you can use PowerShell which can automize many system administration tasks and these tasks are not approachable in command prompt. With the help of the CLI, you can communicate with your system by typing the text in commands. As a result, your system answers to the text that you have typed previously, and then the user can proceed with the next command line that shows up.

To open the Run command Window

Run command window helps you to run programs, open the files and folders. And there are several ways to open up the run command dialog box. This run command box is useful for you to head straight to the destined program easily.

By using the Keyboard shortcut Key:

One of the most commonly used methods is the Shortcut key method. Also, this method is in all versions of Windows. You need to press the Windows+ R key concurrently to open the Run command dialog box.

What does the MORE command do?

The MORE windows command-line tool is for displaying output one screen at a time. This command can be used to TYPE the contents of any file to the screen. This command is used to run any executable command and pause the screen output one screen at a time. The MORE command is an external command.

Syntax


      command | MORE [/E [/C] [/P] [/S] [/Tn] [+n]]

      MORE [/E [/C] [/P] [/S] [/Tn] [+n]] < Pathname

      MORE /E [/C] [/P] [/S] [/Tn] [+n] [Pathname(s)]

Parameter Explanation

  • command – Specifies any executable command or batch file.
  • Pathname – The file to be displayed, if there are two or more words separate it will space.
  • /E – Enables extended features.
  • /E /CClears the screen before displaying page.
  • /E/P – Expand Form Feed characters.
  • /E /S – Squeeze multiple blank lines into a single line.
  • /E /Tn – Expand tabs to n spaces and the default 8.
  • /E+n – Start displaying the first file at line n.

One can form an environment variable called %MORE% and use this to supply any of the above switches.

  • Until the file contains more than 65,536 lines , the output of MORE is redirected to a file it will not prompt for the next page.
  • If extended features are enabled, the following keystrokes are accepted at the — More — prompt

    • – Display next page.
    • – Display next line.
    • Q – Quit.
    • P n – Display next n lines.
    • S n – Skips next n lines.
    • F – Display next file.
    • = – Show line number.
    • ? – Show helpline.

PowerShell

You can use | Out-Host -Paging in preference to MORE in PowerShell thus it yields results immediately through the PowerShell pipeline, without waiting first to collect all the incoming data.
