I think the most important aspact of seniority would be the ability to teach/guide others in a way that makes the other feel empowered with new knowledge instead of lacking it
I strongly dislike categorizing people myself, but for a lot of people it's very motivating to have goals and to be recognized for their growth so i gues it's a fair "system".
