I contract for an insurance company which does focus on the technical aspects of the interview but also looks at your willingness to learn new things and adapt to a constantly changing requirements. Never do they ask tricky coding data structure questions instead they just open your github page and start talking about stuff even if you have just one project on it.
This is the first company I have come across to have an average employee retention rate of 20+ years. Some of the managers we report to have already crossed 30+ years.
I think innovation only happens when you first invest in the candidate you hire. Principles always triumph over rules, but very few companies get this.
