Getting a good Logo for your Business

This is Uclusion’s first logo.

It was created with Looka, and while unobtrusive, certainly doesn’t do a good job of representing anything. Additionally, embedding the slogan in the logo proved to be unwise decision as that slogan lasted a whole 30 days before we realized it was total garbage.

From it you can immediately tell the Uclusion pertains to communication, and the large logo lends itself quite well to a smaller form used as the browser favicon.

How did we go from total garbage to thoughtful and stylish?

Simple. We hired a designer in our own time zone. We did NOT hire a design agency. By contracting with an individual you get much better service, and significantly reduced cost. By going local, you avoid massive waits when making revisions.

So how do you find a Logo Designer?

Well, first off, I’d try to see if you can get our logo designer James Dolence to work with you. He’s flat out amazing. If you can’t do that, chances are you might have one in your network already if you know any other kinds of designer. We found James through a textile designer we knew, and your design friends probably know one or two as well.

If all else fails, look up your local design school, and get in contact with their alumni or job placement departments and tell them you’d what you need.

How do you keep getting good design?

Treat your designer fairly, and pay them promptly. Nobody likes having to hound people for payment, and you want access to their professional network in the future. We found our best UI designer and front end developer as a result of a recommendation chain starting from James.
